Google Nexus One T-Mobile 3G confirmed but EDGE only on AT&T

As the Google Nexus One story continues to unfold, a new hands-on report has surfaced from the renowned Cupertino insider tnkgrl. There were no photos, in the grand Google tradition, but some remarkable revelations nonetheless.

It has been confirmed that the Nexus One will only support T-Mobile 3G. That means if you are fanatical about AT&T’s coverage and customer service, you will have to sacrifice the true 3G experience and instead be content with EDGE only.

Heading south, we see both a micro-usb port and an accessories connector. Tnkgrl is reporting that the phone she examined had a 4GB microSD card, but it’s still unclear if that will come standard with the phone. The most exciting confirmation, though, is that the phone has an OLED screen. OLED screens rock because there is no backlight, they are thinner, and have a much higher contrast ratio than other displays.

TnkGrl thought the Nexus One was faster than the DROID, “extremely thin”, and “nicer looking in person than in pictures”.

One dab of disappointment: the phone she examined did not appear to have multi-touch capability. If Google tragically plans to launch the Nexus One without multitouch at least one of the veritable army of ANDROID phones launching next year will likely rise to fill the void.
