NFL ad policy modifications make Vegas ads possible for postseason and Super Bowl

Thanks to  short-term modifications of NFL advertising policies, tourist destinations that allow gambling will be permitted to advertise during NFL games from Jan. 4, 2010 to Feb. 28, 2010. Opportunities  to advertise Las Vegas during the NFL postseason are under  consideration.

The key here is permitted. That's a long way from approved or committed. Still, the temporary advertising policy modifications make  exciting news for places such as Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, and Reno which were previously blocked from advertising during any NFL games..

There are advertising  restrictions  and the content of all ads  to be run during the postseason must comply with the networks' standards and NFL standards.

According to NFL spokesperson, Brian McCarthy, "we notified our network partners that we will not object to ads during our games for any tourist destination, including Las Vegas.

The NFL still will prohibit ads for hotels, casinos, and other institutions. The new ads cannot contain any gambling references or imagery.

Vegas.com president  Howard Lefkowitz said, "we're very excited about this window of opportunity. NFL fans come to Vegas and Vegas fans are NFL fans." He continued to explain that his company plans to advertise during the playoffs and possibly the Super Bowl.

Rossi Ralenkotter, president and chief executive officer of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority(LVCVA) said  "It's a great development for the destination. This is going to be a key avenue and opportunity for us to target the NFL market. "

Ralenkotter continued , " We always had the belief that we should be given the opportunity to advertise during the regular- season in the NFL ,as well as the postseason and the Super Bowl."

Mayor Oscar Goodman shared his sentiments , " Las Vegas is synonymous with good times: the best entertainment, the best restaurants, the best shopping-we have it all. This allows us to reach the demographic we want to reach."

These NFL advertising policy modifications are temporary and will be re-evaluated after this period to determine future policy decisions.
