A few months ago I featured Amanda Steinberg, Founder of Daily Worth, in this column. Daily Worth is a financial website that provides advice and information to help women best manage their finances. I recently caught up with Amanda to get an update on the phenominal growth of Daily Worth.
Christa - When we last spoke a few months ago, DailyWorth had 1,000 subscribers. Now you're up to 4,000. Congrats! How have you been actively building the following for the site?
Amanda - Yes, isn't it exciting? We're growing mostly through word-of-mouth--our members forward our emails. We've also been featured on Etsy, Forbes, ForbesWomen, MSN Money and 10 other places. Press helps!
Christa - As a result of this much growth, what changes have you had to make to the team?
Amanda - I've hired MP Dunleavey, former New York Times personal finance columnist, as our editorial director. I'm really looking forward to letting a personal finance pro (with a wicked sense of humor) take over publishing, so that I can focus on the business-side of DailyWorth.
Christa - What's been the most gratifying part of growing the site? What's been the biggest surprise?
Amanda - The topic of women and finance is a hot topic -- much hotter than I ever realized when I started DailyWorth. 40% of married women are now breadwinners (Shriver Report). More than half of married women under 34 manage the couple's finances (FindLaw.com). Money matters more to women now than ever before, and DailyWorth is supporting this societal shift by helping women with all of their money questions.
Christa - How are you balancing your other businesses given the quick ramp up on DailyWorth?
Amanda - You forgot to mention my 2 kids, and my very understanding husband! I work a lot. You can read about how I structure my day. In summary, I have a team of very talented employees, enabling me to focus only on business-critical tasks. I'd be lost without my team. Want to be a CEO? Learn how to delegate. It's the only way not to go completely mad.
Christa - What's on the horizon that readers can look forward to from DailyWorth?
Amanda - MP and I are designing a holistic financial education for women in the areas of planning, earning, saving, conscious spending, and investing. Look forward to DailyWorth being your number one place for all of your money questions. Got a New Years resolution about money? Sign up for DailyWorth.
