AIG spends $343,000 for Arizona retreat as thousands lose their jobs

Does this stand for Asinine Irresponsible Group?

If just one more dollar is given to AIG from taxpayer money, it will be $1 too much!

If you click on this link to better understand my angst, I suggest that you do so on an empty stomach as otherwise you may make a mess all over your computer!

If sponsors were really able to pick up the tab for this plush resort conference, why can't  these "sponsors" help contribute to the company's financial rebuilding? If a "conference" was so necessary, there are great conference centers in Newark, N.J., just a short distance from their New York headquarters, which are far less expensive than any spa and resort in Arizona!

In this writer's opinion-

  • ALL "C" level executives and senior staff of AIG should be fired  - immediately, plus, they should receive NO severance packages!
  • Before ANY more taxpayer money is even considered to be given to AIG, forensic accountants from the Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve should be assigned to the Executive Suite at AIG to monitor EVERY dollar spent by the company!

Congress acted quickly, and in some people's opinion, too quickly on bailout packages for firms like AIG. Congress owes us accountability for the money we, our kids and grandkids will be paying back to bail out irresponsible firms like AIG.

Okay, now we are facing a new leader who claims to CHANGE. I comprehend the why's for the bailout, but AIG needs a housecleaning. Our so called Nongress has strong words but all talk and no action. I know Bush is not the most popular, but he could revive some of his integrity and like he did with Iraq and Afghan, he should send in the IRS/FBI/CIA and a neutral audit company to throughly exam AIG books. AIG needs to have approval before even thinking about any so called conferences. Any bonus or severance packages null and void even if they start showing climbing out of the red. The only way to gain bonus is to pay back every single dime, nickel, and penny! We need to go back in time....OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!

This makes me sick. How can they get away with this on the taxpayers dollars. I will not be buying any insurance from AIG. These executives should be taking wage cuts in times of trouble not getting bonuses. The government should make them pay the money back, as it should not be used for pleasure practices.

Getting angry at AIG for wating money is completely missing the point.

The people you should be mad at are politicians for giving them your money to waste.

To the time zone commenter - newspapers post stories to the Web at varying times, obviously the story was on the Web the night before it was in the papers.

you might think that way..but actually aig is trying to retain the best people. and believe me the government is not stupid. they will make more money in the long run because of the bail out. And I am not working or affiliated with AIG anyway. I just did some analysis and also heard from very reliable person.

I can't tell you how mad this makes me! I say that we organize a class action suit and sue AIG!

    OMG! AIG IS SPENDIN MONEY!!

They spent $23,000 of AIG money at an event promoting their warez to independent reps (i.e. NOT AIG). For a "business news examiner" you're a god damn retard. Hey, maybe they should cut all of their marketing and sales budgets, and close down the IT department instead of wasting it on useless things like expensive computers.

When you live in a world where cell phones that are smaller than your hand can take good pictures and decent video, businesses like AIG should realize that there is a “hot mic” on at all times. If AIG’s decision to do this was for “credible” (not losing top performers, unveiling new products and services, etc.) reasons, why weren’t they upfront with us, the taxpayers, before the event? In this era of YouTube, cable news channels that encourage and offer easy access to upload pics and video, social networking sites that rocket news around the world like a speeding train, they had to know that this would come out. They made sure that there was no “AIG” signage or references. Resorts employees were forbidden from mentioning that this was an AIG event. The question is; was this arrogance or just plain stupidity by AIG.

Why is there ANY consideration to loan this company any more bailout bucks? They have spent what they have received foolishly and flagrantly. This is but ONE company! The ENTIRE auto industry is looking for a loan package equal to the original amount ($75B) that this single company received without anyone batting an eye because "they're so important" and "We can't afford" the supposed calamity that would ensue if AIG failed.

What about the ENTIRE U.S. auto industry? We can afford that so we don't need to loan them money???

I'm against bailouts, but if we, the Taxpayers, are going to be taking the inflationary hit by passing out loans and bailout packages, we should prioritize and focus on the most important first. And the U.S. auto industry, with lower labor costs coming in 2010 due to already negotiated union contracts and hundreds of thousands of jobs should be #1, #2, or #3.

AIG should be priority #100,000,000 for any additional corporate welfare. They never did anything for the Taxpayers when they were flying high. Time for them to economize.

If this is the time for a "correction," then let the Second Great Depression start, with ALL of us, including the banks and insurance companies that have been flaky, faulty, and greedy, feel the pain together. We shouldn't suffer while the financial companies ride high.

AIG excuse that they were holding a training session for their independant vendors is such a retard response. If so, why the undercover operation at the hotel? Why such a posh hotel? I am sure at their headquarters they have conference rooms they could serve just water??? They are under scrutiny yet boldly hold these types of stupid meetings, supposedly to generate more revenue they cant or do not have.

Nongress still has no real gameplan, now the poor auto industry is suffering, boo hoo, years ago, many years ago the US auto industry had a chance to really look into the future on being independant from oil, but both greed and partership with Nongress slowed the process for alternative energy sources for the auto industry. Well along came foreign auto industry, ie., Toyota now the number one company, why, years ago they came out with smaller economical vehicles, looking into the future is now really paying off. We Americans continue to look into our little world on a five year plan, while others look at a twenty year plan. Well here we are, looking at the five year greed of AIG, GM, Banks, and who knows who else out there. Do you think Nongress did not know about this? TERM LIMITS, send them to the gallows, OFF with their HEADS!!!
