May Hui, Catchmatchmaking.com
May Hui was an executive for a Fortune 500 company in the Los Angeles area and discovered the challenge of developing relationships outside the company pool of available singles. She and co-founder Katie Chen launched Catch Matchmaking in 2007 to help single executives find meaningful relationships in a friendly environment.
I recently interviewed May on a variety of topics related to her business:
Would you say your service may boost individual performance on the job if a client is satisfied in this part of their lives?
Of course. When we are having satisfying personal lives, we are happier at work and can deal with stress more easily. All of a sudden, we have a skip in our step, our smiles are bigger, and we are in a better mood!
What are Catch Matchmaking’s business goals for 2010?
We are excited to focus on some niche markets, such as increasing our Hispanic database and Asian database. Also, we'll be having more flexible packages to capture the majority of our audience.
What tips do you have for those who are planning to start their own small business or what tips do you have for those on making strategic decisions?
Do your research in your field for at least a year or two and talk to as many people in your field as possible. It's good to reach out to people in a different city or out of state so they won't view you as their competition. Have a list of questions ready when you get face time. Take notes. Nothing is more annoying than someone giving you their time and you don't value it.
What tips do you have for someone seeking a matchmaking service or dating coach?
Go online and do your research. Ask friends and family for referrals. If there are complaints about a company online, beware. Interview your matchmakers and see if you're compatible.
