You’re not likely to see many articles here spotlighting chichi wine shops that also feature gourmet meats and cheeses, catering to upscale foodies in fashionable Northwest neighborhoods. But today only there’s a great 60-percent-off deal at one of DC’s newest haunts for epicurean oenophiles in Adams Morgan.
The A.M. Wine Shoppe opened just two weeks ago at 2122 18th Street, NW (at Wyoming Ave). Described by UrbanDaddy.com as a charming little shop like “you'd find on a Roman side street … in a land of artisan meats and rare wines.” Complete with a 16-person communal tasting table and “chunky wood and antique tile floors,” this is not the kind of place where you’re likely to constantly find wine bargains. It’s said to be owned by the same group who bought the Adams Morgan restaurant Cashion’s Eat Place in 2007.
But if you take advantage of today’s Daily Deal for Washington, DC at LivingSocial.com you can buy $25 of wine and/or food at A.M. Wine Shoppe for just $10. Registering at LivingSocial.com is easy and free, and like Groupon.com and other similar discount sites, it will send you once a day email alerts on typically huge discounts for a wide range of local businesses and services.
The Thrillist sings the praises of this new “sun-filled, cherry-walled vino-seller” for offering inexpensive bottles – such as a Spanish white, Marques de Irun Verdejo, and a Malbec dominated red blend from Bodegas Weinert in Agrentina’s Mendoza Valley, both for $13. UrbanDaddy reports that the wine selection is mostly Old World bottles in the $10-20 range, though it also specializes in rare, hard-to-fine (read: expensive) wines.

[NOTE: Just to head off the nasty-grams from readers who think we’re taking an unfair shot at wine shops that also feature gourmet food, we know full well that there are several that offer wine bargains and have great meat and cheese counters. Two of our favorites, Calvert Woodley and Arrowine, leap immediately to mind. But they are the exceptions that prove the rule. CW’s deli department and La Cheeserie is much like its wine shop, providing great selection and weekly sales that offer great bargains. Arrowine, officially Arrowine & Cheese, also has weekly sales on meats, cheeses, coffee, etc., while its weekly email wine specials are often unbeatable. In general, however, shops that sell gourmet food and rare wines aren’t typically the best wine bargain hunting grounds.]
