It just so happens that there is a red wine out there that is worth cranking that a/c and indulging in. It comes from the home of Malbec – Argentina. Specifically the Lujan de Cuyo region which is located in the Mendoza province. High elevation and surrounding Mountain ranges are just two components of well produced wines. The winemakers use this to their advantage.
Lamadrid Cabernet Franc Reserva 2007 is a exceptional product of high elevation, mountain ranges, soil and superb winemaking. This is no blend – 100% Cab Franc has an incredible inky color (like a Claret). Aromas of roasted red bell peppers (yes, bell peppers is a trait in Cab francs) and leather with an undertone of vanilla on the palate. Smooth and very pleasant – not dry at all.
Cabernet Franc is grown for primarily blending with Cabernet Sauvignon and Melot in a Bordeaux style. However, seeing as the wine above is 100% Cab Franc, it can also be vinified alone. Cabernet Franc is lighter than Cabernet Sauvignon, generally. On the other hand, Lamadrid Cab Franc is not on the light side. It is one of the heavier Cab Francs. The two reds have similar aromas and flavors – but each one has their own uniqueness. And it is not at all common to find a 100% Cab Franc on the shelves.
You can find this wine resting on the wine racks at MacArthur Beverages (Addy Bassin's). $15.99
Crank up that a/c and pop open this unique red wine and enjoy!

Love Cab Franc, but don't see it much on the shelves. Agree: Red wine is good ANYTIME!
