Over the last several years my mileage points from several airlines have all started to expire. I don't travel for work like I used to and I had small amounts of points at several different airlines. I did some poking around on airline websites and ended up with some pretty great things for free. I managed to get some great magazines from American Airlines Advantage program, as well as book a free hotel stay. And my 2000 United miles turned into $200 in Restaurant.com certificates. You can use Delta miles for gift cards and other merchandise. Each airline also offers the ability for you to donate your miles to a worthy cause.
So before you write off that small number of expiring miles, spend some time looking at what you could get. And use it to help you save for your summer vacation.
