This Saturday: Get Free Drinks at the Lincoln Road Art Walk

Wow Matu Croney
This month's invitation is titled 'Wow' by Matu Croney

Miami may not be world famous for its art scene, but locals know that residing amongst us are some very talented people. Miami is, however, pretty well known for its beaches. What bit of culture we manage to keep from moving to New York City or Los Angeles, we keep close to our hearts, and evidence of that south Floridian joie de vivre thrives in our Art Walks, museums and galleries.

But museums and galleries tend to be pricey, and while they provide a delightful escape from the Miami sun in the summer months, once the temperature begins to drop, why not take advantage of the few comfortable months we have in the year, and spend the evening outdoors.

When set to a south beach sunset in the fall, no time could be sweeter than now to be a part of the Lincoln Road Art Walk. Lincoln Road is home to a large clustering of collaborative galleries, including the 3 community oriented Artcenter/South Florida Locations that will be participating in the walk. Artcenter sponsors the growth and development of the South Florida art scene by awarding gallery residences to artists who have not had the chance to expose their work to a large audience of people.

Art walks start popping up all over the place in the fall, and Lincoln Road’s is one of the most diverse and locally focused. The event officially opened up in August, but takes place on the first Saturday of the month, with two remaining dates until they start putting up special installments for Basel.

There will be over 40 local artists on display from 7pm to 10pm, and as with most artwalks, free hors d'oeuvres and of course, wine, if you bring the printed invitation for the event, which is designed by a different ArtCenter resident each month. No printer? No problem! A cash bar is available for those without an invitation, which can easily be obtained by contacting either jarnette@artcentersf.org or alfonso@kitemm.com.
