On Thursday, November 19th, the Rachael Ray Show will welcome a young woman who, apparently, lost six lbs in two days following the "400 calorie fix."

While everyone's being very hush-hush - including show staffers - about the details of the "fix," it's not difficult to find a few details. Apparently, the "400 calorie fix" is nothing more than... calorie counting and portion control.

Getting your 400 calorie fix will rely heavily on your ability to count calories and control your daily portions. Each meal that you eat, while getting your 400 calorie fix, is only 400 calories. 4 meals a day, 400 calories a piece keeps you at 1600 calories a day, and considering that the average body burns about 2100 calories a day, there's enough of a caloric deficit to ensure that you lose weight steadily. If you throw enough fiber in your meals, your 400 calorie fix will not only cleanse you healthily but it'll get that extra weight off your scale, too.

Portion control is, indeed, not a gimmick. It is no secret that America is the land of "Supersize Me," where gigantic portions have contributed to gigantic waistlines and even larger health-related issues. Keeping an entire meal at 400 calories is simple enough to do, but considering the 1,000 calorie meals Americans are used to, it may be a foreign concept.

How can you get your own 400 calorie fix at home?

  1. Cook your dishes at home! That's right - curl up beside that monitor and surf to a few healthy eating recipe websites. Pick out one or two that you like, and give it a shot! You get to experiment, have fun cooking, save a little money, AND avoid an extra inch!
  2. Think LIGHT. Your average cream-filled dish or drink probably has way more calories than you expect. Try to lighten up on the dairy, and you'll likely save yourself a third of the caloric total.
  3. Stop drinking the calories! Trust me, the sodas and the pina coladas are doing you in. Skip them for water, and spare those extra calories for some more yummy on your plate.
  4. Don't listen to your parents: It's okay to skip seconds, and you don't have to eat everything on your plate. If your stomach is barely larger than your fist, and your plate is larger than your head... do the math. Just say no.

In short, portion control is always a good idea. Bottling it up in a book and shipping it of as a novel idea? Not entirely, but if it helps get us on the right path to wellness, then I hope you get your 400 calorie fix soon!

Shauna, I can assure you... weight loss is free. You don't need the book at all - all you have to do is be conscious of what you take in, stay mindful of how much you are eating, how often you do it, and make sure you get in some activity each day. That alone will help you knock off a few pounds!

The lady on the rachael ray show claims to have lost 6 pounds in 2 days. In the video segment it showed her weighing herself on a scale on her bedroom carpet! Everyone knows scales should be placed on an even surface otherwise it will give you a number that is higher than your actual weight. If she weighed herself on an even surface like her bathroom floor the next time, it would explain the SIX POUND loss. Eat healthy and exercising is the best weight loss plan.
