A Presidential straw poll conducted at the value voters conference among conferees chose Mike Huckabee to be their candidate for President in 2012. A second issues poll among conferees made Abortion the number one issue of importance.
Huckabee gave a powerful speech yesterday morning, energizing the Republicans who are attending the conference in Washington, DC. Huckabee received 28% of the vote out of 597 of 2000 conferees.
Tony Perkins, president of Family Research Council , the organization who sponsor's the Value Voter's Summit, said in a press conference, "Huckabee's speech was like he never walked away from his Presidential campaign [in 2008]. He is in touch with the people through his television show and through his speeches. I was not surprised by the results." Huckabee is a former governor of Arkansas and has a weekend talk show on Fox News. He also has written a book entitled, "Do the Right Thing." and has according to his website, "a smarter, fairer type of politics--"vertical politics"--that focuses on common-sense solutions for education, health care, the economy, and many other issues. It's not about right versus left; it's about taking America up rather than down."
Perkins says, although the straw poll is early, they have designed it to be a starting point for Conservatives. Family Research Council has also started a PAC FRC action, where they are targeting candidates for 2010 and gearing up for 2012. FRC has not officially endorsed any candidates yet for President but are hopeful that the new Republican Presidential nominee will be someone who is Conservative both economically and socially and be someone all of the Republican party will relate to.

Yes, Johnathon, because all of those evil billionaires who are economic conservatives that you libs are always talking about are brainless yokels. And the most prominent social conservative in the world, Pope Benedict XVI, is a real dummy, too.
Huckabee has no electability in this country. Pawlenty is the guy. A real conservative who can get elected to gov in a liberal state has a much better chance in 2012. The last thing the republican party needs is a ultra-religious candidate, with a Southern accent and the last name HUCKABEE. Stop voting for this guy. He is a joke. If he didnt run last time, Romney would be our president. He was 10 times more qualified to run this country than Obama or McCain.
BTW Mike Huckabee was governor of Arkansas for 10 1/2 years and it is a very Democratic state. They only vote Republican (sometimes) in the Presidential election. MH had to govern with the legislature being by far more Democrats than Republicans. Mike Huckabee may be a Christian and isn't ashamed of it, but when he governed Arkansas he did not force his religion on anybody in that state and promised not to do that as President. He realizes that our country is founded on freedom of religion and he supports that.
As far as Romney...if you call gay marriage being adopted while he was Governor of Mass, being pro-life while he lived in Idaho, moving to Mass and running for Gov. as pro-choice, and then all of the sudden when he wanted to run for Pres. he's pro-life again, signing legislation for mandated health care in Mass that has almost bankrupted the state being a Conservative candidate, you are wrong. Romney was the most liberal Republican candidate who ran in 2008.
