If this letter doesn't say it all, what does? The writer of the letter below, Darryl S. Ose is a Gulf War Veteran and a dedicated family man who took the time to write a legislator with his feelings toward nationalized healthcare. Not only has he fought for our country as a United States Marine, he is also fighting a personal battle, his five year old daughter, Zoe has Cystic fibrosis. He and his wife Jada spend hours caring for her.
The Oses's receive specialized medical advice on Zoe's condition at a center in Jacksonville, FL . There are only a few of these centers of it's kind in the US and the Ose's family relocated four and a half years ago to live near the center, which makes Mr. Ose's commute 250 miles a day. The most compelling part of this story is that even though their daughter has a serious, life threatening condition, they have never asked for government assistance, nor do they want government interference. The Oses' reaction to the nationalized plan is fear and rightly so. Fear that care will be rationalized for Zoe and fear of who will be handling her care.
The Oses' have showed Zoe's story on a website. You will find a link to the site at the end of the letter. In this link will show what the Oses' are going through and Zoe's heart wrenching story.
Thank you Mr. Ose for your unrelenting dedication and love for this country!
November 21, 2009
The Honorable Senator Mary Landrieu
328 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510-1804
Dear Senator Landrieu:
Thank you, once again mam, for throwing the American people under the bus! How could you possibly let yourself be bought…. with American taxpayers dollars?
Where are your morals and your values? Your actions speak volumes to not only your constituents, but to the American people as a whole. It’s no secret that you are simply a liberal Democrat with “Socialistic” ideals, and the American people….. the center-right American people…… have realized this. Unfortunately, elections do indeed have consequences and I, like so many other Americans, feel there will once again be a dramatic swing in seats between both the mid-term and the 2012 elections.
I am a United States Marine who has put his life on the line for our great country in the past. My wife and I have eleven children between us and out youngest daughter, Zoe, is five and has a genetic, life-shortening disease called cystic fibrosis. If this piece of garbage of a healthcare bill makes it through, Zoe will suffer tremendously! She has the best possible doctors, expert advice, treatments, therapies and meds available….. all due to our private insurance…. I don’t want some liberal bureaucrat with no knowledge of medicine, healthcare, and most of all…. No knowledge of my daughter and her disease, making decisions that will affect her health and her life. It is completely mind-boggling to think that you could possibly even consider voting for this healthcare bill. Your true colors are on wide display to the public Senator….. you were simply bought by Senator Reid in exchange for an earmark to help boost your constituent base and aid in your re-election. $ 300 million in American taxpayer ,money…… pathetic and disgusting!
I suppose the public will of course be afforded the opportunity to read, examine, scrutinize, and vet the final bill prior to congressional vote…. Right? That’s a joke! Whatever happened to President Obama’s (and the leader’s of the House and Senate’s) promise of a “new government of transparency and bi-partisianship”? Whatever happened to the promise to the American people that we would be able to read every bill on-line for at least 72 hours prior to a House and Senate vote? Oh yeah……… the President lied yet once again (Joe Wilson was 100% correct…. At least he had the intestinal fortitude to say what we were all thinking)… as did Speaker Pelosi…. As did Senator Reid! Whatever happened to an administration with no lobbyists???.... Instead we have an administration now filled with unprecedented amount of completely un-vetted czars, tax-cheats and “big-government” elected and non-elected “officials” and “advisors” who are nothing more than power hungry and morally deficient far-left liberals. I won’t even begin to get into all of this… there are way too many examples to explore and I had originally intended to confer with you about only the healthcare issue.
As I mentioned above, my wife and I have an extended family with eleven children…. One of which who is chronically sick with a genetic, life-shortening disease. If anyone should ever “qualify” for some sort of government assistance it would be us, but we've never relied upon the government for anything. We work hard and live honest lives to support our family…. unlike the plethora of people out there that virtually live off of the teet of the government. I typically work 6-7 days a week 52 weeks a year to support our family and I am proud to do it! With Zoe’s disease the whole "healthcare" fiasco has caused us great concern and we have let a lot of people about it!
Universal health care/socialized medicine is pure garbage! In short, Zoe's very precious life depends upon the best possible expert medical advice, doctors, medicines, treatments, and therapies etc. available to her. You will not be able to get that in a system that will limit and dictate/mandate the exact pay out to physicians. This will cause the number of physicians to decrease, rationing to occur (which has already happened with mammograms and pap smears), and the quality and availability of health care to severely decline. That's why we moved to Jacksonville, Florida. In Jacksonville is located the Nemours Children's Clinic (which Zoe attends for treatment) is a specialized "CF Care Center" and there are only so many of these throughout the U.S. Consequently, we made the choice to move from just west of Savannah, Georgia (where I've been employed by a company there for almost 17 years now) to Jacksonville four and a half years ago. Due to the wages and private medical insurance/health care myself and my family receives through my employer I could not afford to change careers for anything less..... and so, I must commute from the Jacksonville area to Savannah and back home to Jax. at night... for Zoe.... for the medical benefits….. high quality private medical benefits! We actually now live in Saint Marys, Georgia.... on the Florida/Georgia state line and my commute is now only a mere 250 miles round trip each day, but when we lived in Jax. (for the past three years) my commute was 330 miles each day 7 days a week. I get so sick and tired of listening to people whine and complain about how hard they have it! Instead, perhaps they should self-administer a regimen of hard work and an honest living instead of relying upon the government for their every need… stop living off of all of us tax payers. I for one do not want my tax dollars going to something that I do not support! So many millions of Americans have been brain-washed and conditioned by big government, Constitution-Hating officials/leaders, and the liberal (state-run) media, into a society that is no longer free… a society with a net very quickly collapsing around it… suffocating it into submission! ……….. a society of laziness, self-pity.... a society of wanting everything that mom and dad have immediately and without working for it..... a society of moral decay! The sleeping giant that is the American people is re-awakening Senator! People have finally grown sick and tired of it all.....the un-constitutionality of government mandates…. Forcing people to purchase something or risk being put in jail and fined for not doing it…. Whatever happened to personal freedom, independence, and liberty? In regards to the American people as a whole, I think it's finally hit their own physical welfare and their pocket books hard enough that they are starting to pay a little more attention to what is actually happening within our government instead of who was on American idol or who won the game last night.... finally!!
Again, "nationalized", "socialized", or "rationed" health care does not work nor has it ever worked. Tell me what program the government has actually run well? We are expected to believe and trust that the same government that has bankrupted Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, the postal system, etc. can tackle an overhaul of the healthcare system? Should we believe that the same "mental giants" that produced the masterful piece of legislation called "Cash For Clunkers", which ran out of funds in less than a week, could possibly handle the complexity of the health care system??? It's all about governmental control. When the government controls your healthcare they control you. If this bill eventually passes, the number of people within private industry that have private health insurance through their employers will dwindle down to nothing and our children and grandchildren will pay the price for the greed and corruption of a liberal government. What did Senator McCain call it…? “Generational Theft”?? That’s it exactly! The government will levy fines and taxes upon companies if they don't elect to move their employees to the government run plans. Private industries, which are the backbone of this great country and capitalist society, are not in business to lose money.... they will be forced to place their people on the government plan... plain and simple. And those individuals that decline to accept it will be taxed (fined) and jailed. There are so many clear examples of the failure of socialized healthcare throughout the world. Because our daughter has CF, we are in communication with a lot of other people within the CF Community throughout the world and we hear first-hand, personal accounts from people we know about "nationalized" health care in these areas and the stories are almost unbelievable. We know people who cannot even procure the medicines, even the most basic, that they require as CF sufferers. They can rarely get appointments (after being placed upon a list) to see general practitioners let alone CF/Pulmonology specialists. They cannot get the durable medical equipment essential to their very lives. They too have others making decisions for them about their health care. I don't want someone else, someone from the government who has nothing whatsoever to do with Zoe's health, making decisions about her and deciding what meds she may receive, what care and therapies she is eligible for, and what doctors she has to use!!!!!!!! I want the very best possible doctors, medicines, durable medical equipment, medical advice, and therapies available for her health. This bill will take away any remote possibility of that!
What if it was one of your children that were chronically ill with a life-shortening disease Senator….?? If you had to utilize and rely upon a government-run, nationalized/socialized healthcare system for care critical to their very lives would you subscribe to it????? Hmmmmm….. I think not! Congress has already shot down how many amendments already that were to have the “Cadillac” healthcare package that you all enjoy (at our expense) eliminated and to have Congress participate in the government-run plan. Why don’t you put your money where your mouth is Senator and “Walk The Walk” instead of just “Talking The Talk”? Afraid???? Come 2010 come!
Warm Regards,
Darryl S. Ose

I have two children with Cystic Fibrosis. Nice letter. Contains absolutely no details regarding the proposed health care plan. Course Darryl fought in Iraq and has a child with Cystic Fibrosis and has a long commute - he must be right. We should should listen to Darryl. Gut thinking, I thought we voted that out of office. I'm going through the same thing as Darryl, only I have two kids to worry about. I'm glad/lucky I have health insurance. I could be among the 10% of the population that is unemployed right now. What would Darryl do if he didn't have a job? I guess that he'd have to get some sort of government assistance. Would he be too proud to receive from the government he served? I don't understand.
I'd just like to say one more thing. Insurance is a social safety net. Darryl doesn't pay his own way and neither do I. Darryl and I benefit from the fact that the healthy and the the not so healthy pay into the system and everyone pays the same amount. We pay the average, not what it actually costs to take care of a child with CF. Insurance IS socialized medicine.
Matt... what planet are you from? Insurance is a private industry.... not socialized medicine! Unfortunately big government is about chest deep and wallowing in that industry as well. If the government would stop all of the mandates and allow inter-state competition among private insurance companies you would see the prices drop and the quality of coverage increase.... liberal aren't you?? Over-spending and over-taxing does not work. It does nothing other than increase our national debt and deficit. Semper Fi Darryl.... I admire you having the guts to speak up and the determination to take care of your family...... responsibility.... what a concept! Well done Doreen!
Same planet as you. Insurance companies can't compete with each other? Really? The federal (or is it state?)government(s) won't let them compete across state lines? Do you have proof of this claim? Poor insurance companies. Everything is government related - all our woes. I'm left leaning for sure - father, husband, american citizen and earthling too.
I have a child with cystic fibrosis and cerebral palsy. We travel many miles for our clinic. We have private insurance and doctors that are fantastic. I worry greatly that this heathcare bill will pass and suddenly it will not be cost effective to treat the few with CF with the expensive drugs that are required. I agree with this letter 100%. He is right. Darryl thank you for your service.
I agree with Matt. I have CF. Until Jan '09, I worked full time. Now I'm disabled and get insurance through the state of CA. It's a program for people that *can't* get private insurance due to having a chronic illness. It works great, I get what I need and there's never a hassle with a denial-prone intermediary.
The Constitution says that the government's job is to "promote the general welfare" of it's people. Medical care should be a right, not a privilege for those lucky enough to have a full time job with the right benefits.
amen
@ Matt Schutz:
"Insurance IS socialized medicine."
Dead wrong.
Insurance is a business, based on the statistics and mathematics of calculated risk.
Our daughter has Cystic Fibrosis and is 20 years old. My husband's insurance will cover her for a few more years since she is a college student. The problem is his insurance has a lifetime maximum of $1,500,000. She is now approaching that max and will have to go on Medicaid. Darryl please remember CF is a very expensive disease. What will you do if your daughter reaches her lifetime maximum? I certainly hope she won't and a cure will be found.
Eileen.... it's a good thing the healthcare bills are scheduled to cut Medicare 400-600 billion dollars! Thank you Democrats! I'm sure that will help out a lot.. having less money for medicare and the "Baby Boomers" coming into retirement. Hmmm let's see.... more people and less money equals disaster. Hope you all enjoy it.
Save your definitions buddy.
What I mean by socialized medicine is that I don't pay my own way. I couldn't. I am supported by my coworkers in that my insurance premiums are subsidized. Same as Darryl. I know, I know, this isn't in keeping with your tribe's mantra of "personal responsibility". But as you know, my last name isn't Trump and I couldn't possibly afford to pay my childrens' medical costs out of pocket. Therefore, I require insurance (this social safety net). Suppose I was an independent business owner (backbone of this country, right?), guess what, I'd be SOL. Why, cause I couldn't get health coverage.
Why is industry always a good thing and government always a bad thing to you people. Did industry do a good job with respect to the Ford Pinto (the cost benefit analysis that cost lives)? Did industry do a good job with respect to DDT (the pesticide that nearly wiped out the Bald Eagle)? Nope. Government intervention.
Truth hurts does it not Matt? Bob... you receive state government assistance from California? Oh yeah, that's right.. the state that's the finest economic role model to the other 56... oooops, that's right, obama is the one that thinks there's 57. Not to worry Bob, Governor Patterson is quickly catching up to Governor Schwarzenegger.... soon NY will in deeper than Cali., but don't worry... you are all too big to fail and the rest of us will bail you out with our tax dollars. Redistribute the wealth... right?
Wow! It does hurt! What truth? What information have you put forth, Richard, that would add to this conversation? It was W. that authorized the first of the Tarp payments - too big to fail. How soon we forget.
You seem critical of the state giving assistance to Bob. What would you say to him - tough luck. Without treatment, Bob would die. What's your solution? Put your truth out there. Give me an answer. I am all ears. Discuss the issue for crying out loud.
Got something to say?
