Florida seeks to secede from the federal health care reform union

The Tenth Amendment Center.com reported on Wednesday that the Florida legislature has introduced a state constitutional amendment HJR37 which would “protect” Floridians from any federal government “imposed” health care regulations. The proposed amendment was introduced by Florida State Senator Carey Baker R-Eustis and State Representative Scott Plakon R-Longwood.

HJR37 would protect Floridians and Florida businesses from the ability of any new federal law to impose demands, restrictions or penalties on health care choices on Floridians. Baker and Plakon feel this measure is necessary in light of the fact that some of the versions of proposed federal health care reform legislation have included insurance coverage mandates. Wouldn’t that be a disaster to require that every American has health care insurance? And some versions of health care reform could go so far as penalizing employers who fail to provide employee health insurance, which could be the beginning of the end of free enterprise and the entire free world. I’m sure Fidel Castro, Joseph Stalin and Karl Marx would all be very proud of Barack Obama. I’ll bet none of them would have ever imagined that the easiest way to defeat democracy would be to elect a black man from Hawaii as president. Of course, many who support the likes of Carey and Plakon, I’m sure even doubt that Barack Obama was really born in Hawaii and still doubt his constitutional qualifications to even be president.

As reported in my article yesterday, Health care reform and why Florida can't afford the status quo, 21 percent of Floridians have no health insurance coverage, that’s over 3.3 million Floridians.

Those who are worried that health care reform is akin to building the Berlin Wall along the Mason-Dixon Line must somehow believe that so many Floridians don’t have health insurance because there aren’t enough choices of health care plans, or because they feel more secure walking around without health insurance, or most likely they are just a bunch of lazy parasites who are waiting for "free" socialized medical care from the government. Anyone who believes that needs to put down the Xanax and turn off Rush Limbaugh and Fox News.

Listen closely all you Right-Wing “Birther” and Communist Conspiracy theorists, the reason more than three million Florida citizens don’t have health care insurance is because their employers don’t offer them insurance or because they can’t afford to buy health insurance on their own, or can’t afford the inadequate extremely insurance plans their employers offer compared to the low wage they pay.

Let’s make one thing clear. State Senator Carey Baker and State Representative Scott Plakon didn’t introduce HJR37 to protect Floridians from the Red Scourge of Socialism, they introduced it to protect insurance companies and business interests who probably donate money to their campaigns.

Write your State Senators and State Representatives here in South Florida, and throughout the state, to defeat HJR37, and send a clear message to both state and federal elected legislators that enough is enough. Let them know in no uncertain terms that you don’t buy their scare tactics, and that you are tired of walking around one illness or accident away from bankruptcy. We need health care reform, we need it now, and any legislator who opposes it will soon join the ranks of the unemployed and uninsured.

The Federal Gov needs to be limited to protecting our rights, protecting our freedoms, and protecting us from foreign attacks. No where in the Constitution is health care a guaranteed right.

Look at the VA Hospitals and you can get a glimpse at how well government run health care works.

The 10th Amendment states that the Fed has no power other than the power given to it by the united States.

Maybe if we weren't taxed as much we could all afford health care. I know I would be better off if I had even half of the taxes I pay back in my pocket.

I agree, we do need health care reform, just not the kind they want to impose.

Have you actually read the 1017 page Bill? This thing is a monster and will make things worse for a lot of people. One way or another, the tax payers of all levels and incomes will pay for this either through direct tax or higher medical/insurance costs.

As long as you rob Peter to pay Paul, you will always have Paul's support.

A lot of the so called unisured in Fl are people that have 2 cars cell phones flat screen tv's eat out more than they should. These people chose to not buy health insur. it's not that they can not afford it, they can. They would rather spend their money elsewhere and then complain.

I totally support this amendment! If our health care is such a mess then why don't folks travel to Canada or Mexico to take advantage of their terrific programs? Does anyone want to have their medical experience anything like going to the DMV??? Heck NO...

I will look into this also but it sounds good for Floridians. If people actually wanted health care they can eat at home and get rid on the 2nd car. Oh, wait that is exactly what I did. Go me! I can afford health care now and I am eating better for a lot less money also. Hmmm

Author of this is a close-minded, ignorant, hater-aide drinking individual whose seen better days.

W was more of a marxist that President Barack Obama will ever be -- lest we forget the billions of dollars he transferred from our taxpayer pockets last fall to all his Wall Street fatcat buddies.

Wonder if this so called 'journalist' ever used photoshopped pictures of George Bush that were touched up to accent how much he looked like and beady-eyed idoit, just as he has used an obviously racialized touched up photo of our President to make him look less like the distinguished man he is and more like a ____ (fill in the blank with your favorite right-wing, racial epithet.)

I am seeing commercials all over FL from BCBS for health plans for individuals starting at 30 per MONTH! Less than a cell phone bill per month for sure! Time to own up to the fact that there IS affordable insurance out there, but many don't want to give up a cell phone or a cup of coffee a day to get it. Sure it won't be cadillac coverage at that price, but there are few who can afford that. We have 2 choices there, we can either work our way up to that upper tier to get offered the cadillac coverage, or we can make sure that whatever plan congress passes, they also MUST enroll in :)

Great job on the amendment, I will be calling tomorrow to support it! We are not entitled to healthcare. It is not a right given in the constitution, any more than a right to a house, car, or a job is for that matter. Time to learn the difference between a right and an opportunity for alot of folks.

an obviously child-like bias article - but may i just say this. i LOVE my freedom and i have NO health ins. and i will NEVER buy health ins. of ANY kind. i pay to fix my truck when it breaks, i pay to fix my house when it needs repair, and i pay to fix myself. the Czars and their emperor can stay out of my personal, private life. i hurt NO ONE.

I find it very hard to believe that so many people "can't" afford health insurance. Maybe they just don't want to afford it???? We have given up all luxury items just to be able to afford it, so if we can, ANYONE can.

I will never support a government mandated health insurance. Never!

The majority of individuals in Florida value their personal freedom. Any that doubt will be steamrolled by public sentiment and the shift in policy that ensues. Move back North while you can still afford it. You will not enjoy a sovereign state that values productivity and capital.

All of you who are so proud to give up living more enjoyable lives so you can "afford" health care are well loved by the insurance company executives who are getting richer everyday because of your sacrifices.

33% of my salary goes to health care. My wife and I both need our cars because we don't work on the same side of town. I should give up one car and one job so I can afford health insurance from a company that is going to limit my coverage, charge ridiculous rates and drop me if I get sick?

The American dream. Have another cigar South Beach Community Examiner, how much do you spend on those?

Well, today's news that Reid and Pelosi plan to fine anyone who doesn't participate in their socialist plan will certainly cement Texas' secession plans, that's for sure.
