Cheney / Palin in 2012: Dream ticket

Dick Cheney with red flgas in the background.
Dick Cheney. Presidential front-runner in 2012?

Dick Cheney has finally done enough major television talk shows that he is suddenly considered a viable candidate for president in 2012. He qualifies as a “Republican’s Republican” with his hawkish attitudes, his bully complex, and his total disdain for an individual’s Constitutional right to privacy. He has accused President Barack Obama of weakening the strength of the United States by banning torture and risking our nation’s security by closing Guantanamo Bay.

Three days ago Dick Cheney accused the Obama Administration of privileged vacationing while Attorney General Eric Holder reversed the President’s earlier stated policy of not wanting to “look back.” In other words, according to Cheney, while Obama is playing celebrity at Martha’s Vineyard, the renegade Holder, DOJ Chief, is risking American lives by investigating CIA personnel who might have gone beyond even Cheney’s stacked deck of legal policies way back when Cheney was Vice President.

Dick Cheney said on Sunday:

"President Obama's decision to allow the Justice Department to investigate and possibly prosecute CIA personnel, and his decision to remove authority for interrogation from the CIA to the White House, serves as a reminder, if any were needed, of why so many Americans have doubts about this administration's ability to be responsible for our nation's security,"

Speaking with such empathy Dick Cheney said somberly:

“Now we've got a political appointee coming back, and supposedly without the approval of the president, going to do a complete review, or another complete investigation, possible prosecution of CIA personnel. We could talk the whole program about the negative consequences of that, about the terrible precedent it sets, to have agents involved, CIA personnel involved, in a difficult program that's approved by the Justice Department, approved by the National Security Council, and the Bush administration, and then when a new administration comes in, it becomes political.

They may find themselves dragged up before a grand jury, have to hire attorneys on their own because the Justice Department won't provide them with counsel.

It's a terrible, terrible precedent."

The message is, “Dick Cheney cares” about “them.” “They” may even face prosecution. “They” were just following orders while involved in a “difficult” program “approved by the National Security Council, and the Bush administration.” So then doesn’t “They” become “We” when he publicly admits that the White House approved the use of “enhanced interrogation techniques”, known by the rest of the civilized world as “torture”. Then, since Dick Cheney was an integral part of the aforementioned Bush Administration, as in “I give the orders around here,” then doesn’t “We” become “I”? As in “I, Dick Cheney, do solemnly swear…”

And then even in Dick’s interview, “We” and "me" becomes one:

I guess the other thing that offends the hell out of me, frankly, Chris, is we had a track record now of eight years of defending the nation against any further mass casualty attacks from Al Qaeda.

In the Wall Street Journal.com Op-Ed piece, James Taranto lends credence by publication, to the dangerous “I told you so.” bet that Cheney and the Republican party are willing to make. It’s an expensive bet if you have to pay, because you pay with human lives. But at this point “they” will do almost anything to gain political points, even if it almost invites terrorists to help "me" Dick Cheney get elected. “They” would do almost anything to salvage and right the damaged ship, that is the GOP. It is listing far to the right, after it sprung so many leaks during that horrible autumn of 2009.

And then Dick Cheney the chess master shows his true face. It is conceivable, that sometime in the not so distant future, the United States itself or interests of the U.S. abroad could be attacked by a terrorist. If “god forbid” we were attacked, it would prove that Dick Cheney was right.

Case in point: Dick Cheney has managed to convince at least one writer from a  major newspaper, that unless we continue to break our own laws, break international laws of war, and break all the applicable international conventions we’ve agreed to, and unless we break every principle of civilized government to which we profess, we will be attacked. And then it will be Obama’s fault, not Dick’s fault, Obama’s.

And that’s the beauty of Dick’s bet, no matter how far into the future the attack is Dick wins. Dick Cheney has set a perfect media trap based on the hope that the attack on the U.S. comes quick enough to help launch Cheney’s 2012 presidential campaign. Dick Cheney has played this move with skill.

One would hope that Dick Cheney really doesn’t want anybody to kill Americans for his mere political gain. But based on his past hawkish record, history hints that he wouldn’t be opposed to making a few bucks or gaining some more power at the expense of a few “heroes” lives. Cheney loves the fruits of war and judging by his chess-like moves, he would be likely to use war again to serve his individual purpose. That’s why he laid the bet.

If the attack came just before the primaries Dick Cheney could spring the trap, blame Obama, and “Checkmate.” He could glide through the primaries, especially if he could convince a defeated Sarah Palin to run on the ticket with him. That would get Dick a connection to the Right-Wing and conservative female base voters. Dick and Sarah would be locked and loaded all through the campaign, and after running on national security and the Second Amendment, victorious they could march up Capitol Hill and into the White House. And then suddenly, it all comes crashing down.

Suddenly you remember something totally liberal about Dick Cheney, something that doesn’t sit well with the base because the Bible told them so. You remember that Dick Cheney is for same-sex marriage. Dick Cheney thinks that state governments should have the right to decide if they want to permit gay marriages in their state, maybe even right next door.

Ouch! That hurts! Dick Cheney, suddenly comes off as a “same-sex marriage Liberal.”

It’s really a shame too, because the same-sex marriage issue would most likely offend the devout Sarah Palin and put her in an impossible situation. She could never stand campaigning with someone who supports same-sex fornication. And where Sarah goes, goes the Far Right Republican base, and all because of his “Neocon” attitudes. To win in 2012, he would need every Republican he could get and losing the base would put the nail in the coffin; and all because he thinks two people of the same sex should be allowed to be married, and live together like “man and wife,” and maybe even live right next door.

Dick Cheney and Sarah Palin in 2012 would have been the dream ticket, too bad about that one little thing, otherwise, they would have had a hell of run.

Palin will never be the vice presidential candidate again. She is not the playing-second-fiddle type. And I am sure that she has learned that lesson.

If she's not at the top of the ticket then she won't be there. If she's not in charge of the campaign then she won't be there. And she shouldn't be.

Had she been in charge the last time out it would have been a much different campaign: more vigorous and hard-driving.

    "Devout" Sarah Palin,? Hmmm ...

Seems if they teamed up it would help the Dems... Is Sarah really the best option we have?? Lets forget looks, and go with brains please. Atleast Cheney is speaking his mind and giving people freedom, Freedom for the people,,

I for one, do not look to the Bible for law, and If I did wich version should I choose?
Well I choose freedom, Freedom to think, Freedom to live and freedom to beleive what ever I want to beleive.

You must be joking or delusional! Palin would never take second chair again and Cheney is very disliked and has had 4 heart attacks. Palin is a national joke and frankly is incompetent! Why would anyone want someone who quits their governor job to be president!? I am a lifelong conservative Republucan about to become independent! I mean come on people, please open your eyes and be realistic or we will never take the whitehouse back. This would be a losing ticket by a landslide!

I like Sarah as a person too and admire her stand on many issues. But she does not have what it takes to be in national office. She did not even like being a governor-just talk to some Alaskans! She also us too emotional and thin skinned. I have been told by friends of hers that she is done with politics except for being a speaker and a voice for the party. That is a fantastic effective role for her that helps all of us.
We must pick a team that has a chance. Many of you underestimate President Obama too.

Sarah Palin follows the Constitution so there's little mystery where she stands on gay marriage and abortion (those rights not specified in the Constitution remain with the states). The dream ticket at the moment is Palin/Guiliani.

I agree. That would be the Democrats dream for a GOP ticket. Cheney will be lucky to not be in prison in 2012. Palin couldn't handle the "hard work" of being the Governor of the sparsely populated oil money rich state of Alaska. Joe the Plumber for Secretary of State!

Sarah Palin and Joe Biden were in agreement on gay marriage. Even President Obama was not to the left of her on that one. Sorry to break it to you folks.

She would easily support Cheney, though the ticket will never materialize. Cheney is going to play kingmaker again.

    Claire,

So where in the Constitution does it say the federal government should legislate morals, and personal choices? The Right-side is always pushing for tougher federal regulations on obscenity media and entertainment, and there's hundreds of thousands of people in jail simply because they had marijuana in their pockets. Where does the multi-billion dollar per year failed war on drugs come from? I never read anything about controlled substances in the constitution?

Conservatives claim they are for personal freedom.....that is as long as they agree with your lifestyle. Deviate one bit and they're all over you. Sarah Palin is among the worst offenders when it comes to two-faced politics, i.e. Say one thing and do the other, what's okay for me is not okay for you, because you do it differently.
