Meteorologist Tony Pann
Meteorologist Tony Pann leaves the DC airwaves tonight at 11PM, ending an eight year run on WUSA-9. After a week's rest, he begins work as the morning weatherman at WBAL-11 in Baltimore.
It's a homecoming of sorts for Pann, who previously was at channel 11 from 1993 to 2000. "WBAL is a great place to work, a lot of the same people are there when I was there ten years ago. It's nice to go someplace where people already know who you are and they're happy to have you there."
After waking up at 2AM for seven years, Tony decided he needed a break from the mornings and took a weekend job at WCBS in New York in 2000. "I like New York, but I didn't like living in New York. It's the only place in the world where you can get in a traffic jam at 3AM." WBAL's former news director Dave Roberts soon called Tony to offer him a slot at his new station, WUSA in Washington. Dave needed a weatherman for the weekend morning shows which were just launched and Tony came down to DC. "I like doing morning news shows better than any others, because you can have fun, they're looser", says Pann. " WUSA has a great facility, a good looking set, and the weather center is about the size of my apartment in New York."
Moving back to WBAL has cut Tony's commute in half. From his home in Cockeysville, TV Hill is less than 30 minutes away as opposed to the hour and a quarter trip to Broadcast House in DC. "I've been very lucky, I've spent most of my career just driving up and down 95 to New York and DC without having to move." Tony's wife Mary Ellen is also employed as a TV meteorologist at Fox 43 in York, Pennsylvania.
In addition to switching TV stations, Tony will also have a new radio home in Baltimore. On Monday October 5th, he will leave WCBM and join WBAL-AM, providing weather coverage for the new morning news block launched by the powerhouse station. He also continues to write a Baltimore weather column for the Examiner.com web site.

Dave Roberts!?!?! Oh Lord, you had to bring up his name. He was CRAZY!
Who are they getting rid of to make room for Tony?
Welcome back Tony, we missed you.
Welcome back Tony Pann it is nice to see you back in Baltimore we missed you. You are right at home with the WBAL NEWS FAMILY. You still look the same after the years that you have been gone.
Keep the weather nice and mild.
Welcome back tony. I remember you when I lived here in 95-96. Knew I had seen your face before. Good luck and welcome back to WBAL.
Welcome Back! It's wonderful to see you doing the weather again from Baltimore! You were missed!
I'll miss hearing Tony's weather late at night on WCBM.
It's nice to see you back Tony. It's always nice to have some continuity with the personalities we allow into our homes, because we rely on you for information and a familiar face and easy going personality makes the pending snow storms more fun! :-)
Welcome back!
I was wondering where Tony went!! We will miss you in Northern
Virginia Tony, best of luck.
I know Tony liked my Rick Schlauch Beer and Chips in the evening in Cockeysville at the cookouts; will be glad to see him on Ch 11!!!
You were the best meteorologist at WUSA--we really miss you and wish someone else had left, not you. You're the best, Tony Pann.
Go back to wherever you came from. Sandra Shaw gave this station national exposure and now you decide to come back and she's off the air. You're a stiff, and have no personality. Bring back Sandra Shaw. And what exactly did you do for The David Letterman Show? Haven't been able to find anything you did for the show, but yet you claim to have worked there.....
did they kick him outta washington because he thinks global warming by man is fake?
Tony I need to know what the weather will be tonight at 7 in Catonsville. My daughter has a lacrosse tonight. Thanks
Whatsoever happened to Sandra Shaw? Why was she kicked out of WBAL? Where Bull and Lack play
Pann tried to bop Sandra Shaw and she left!
Got something to say?
