At the Rifles Club in London last night, March 19 2010, Prince Harry launched an event that will send a team of disabled veterans to the North Pole. According to reports, the Prince is planning to join them on the unprecedented expedition.
The Prince announced that if his military commitments will allow, he intends to join the team for several days. The expedition will take place in April 2011 and Prince Harry is due to graduate from his helicopter training in May this year, with a possibility of being sent to Afghanistan afterwards.
Aided by an expert support team, the group will trek 300 miles across the Arctic to reach the geographical North Pole. Prince Harry is patron of the charity Walking With the Wounded which raises money to help injured soldiers. The group hopes to raise £1 million with the polar expedition.
At the launch event, Prince Harry demonstrated how travelers would pull a loaded sled with a harness around their bodies. The former soldiers who are part of the group will, if successful, be the first amputees to reach the North Pole.
The Prince also gave a speech praising the soldiers' courage and sense of adventure in the face of adversity and met several of the prospective team members.

Very cool. A friend of mine has walked to the North Pole several times and I am fascinated by this expedition. Looking forward to hearing more about it.
Good to see Prince Harry doing something to bring honor to his name.
