It is every little girl’s dream to wear a big white wedding dress on her wedding day. The white wedding dress concept came about from the English Monarchy, when Queen Victoria opted to wear a white gown instead of the traditional silver gown worn by the royals during the XVI century; thus, starting a fashion trend for the western world which would continue into the modern times of today. In the XVI century it was very common to wear a light colored bridal dress, such as blue, pink or yellow, which could be worn again at special occasions. In that era it was rare to purchase a dress which one would never wear again; this luxury was only for royalty or the elite. Can you imagine wearing anything but a white dress?

So the big question is- is it appropriate to wear a colored wedding dress? Yes! Many of the eastern cultures, where this influence seems to be coming from, never wear white. Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Bengali and Pakistani brides are all decked out in reds, maroons, pinks and greens. The cultural norm for them is a bright and colorful wedding dress with lots of gold and silver bead work detailing.

Colored wedding dresses are appearing more and more at trunk shows and on designer runways. A shade of white just might not seem right for every bride. Every bride wants to be the most beautiful woman on her wedding day and stand out amongst her guests. What better way than to wear a red or even black wedding gown. It is your wedding you be the judge of your dress. Let your personal style and personality guide you.
