Voting record plagues Democrat Suzanne Kosmas in District 24

Kosmas and Obama
Kosmas' ties to Obama could cost her votes in 2010.

The political career of Democrat Suzanne Kosmas could be short-lived if the House Representative for Florida District 24 continues on her current course to low approval ratings.

Like many first-term Democrats, Kosmas rode into office on the wave of Barack Obama's momentum . As Kosmas approaches the end of her first year in Washington D.C., potential rivals from the Republican Party are criticizing her party-line voting. Throughout Kosmas' campaign in the 2008 election, the former real estate agent portrayed herself as a moderate, but during her first nine months in office, Kosmas has voted with her party 93% of the time.

On opencongress.org, Kosmas' approval rating is 10%, a disastrous figure for any incumbent, especially in central Florida, where many retired military and right-leaning independents reside. If  poll ratings aren't enough cause for her adviser's concern, her campaign spending/income ration should raise a red flag. Kosmas has spent $109,000 of her $605,000 in campaign contributions, with Republican candidate yet to be nominated.

Americans for Fair Taxation, also known as FairTax, named Kosmas to their Hall of Shame- a list of politicians guilty of "outright lies in print, radio, phone and television ads about the FairTax." FairTax is an encomic model  that eliminates all federal income taxes for individuals and corporations, all federal payroll withholding taxes and abolishes estate and capital gains taxes. It initiates the repeal of the 16th Amendment. These taxes are replaced, with a flat 23% sales tax on the retail sale to the end user of new goods and services. The only exceptions would be ‘business to business’ transactions, investment purchases and tuition.

There is also a ‘prebate’ provision that refunds all sales tax paid on all spending up to the poverty level. The CBO says the FairTax is the only tax reform proposal that completely untaxes the poor.

If Kosmas continues to adhere to the Obama administration's policies, she could be clearing out her desk in 2010.

The FairTax was actually developed with $22 million of high level economic research commissioned by Americans for Fair Taxation--not the good Mr. Boortz.

Ms. Kosmas refused to put the brakes on deceptive and inaccurate campaign ads about the FairTax which were engineered by cynical operatives as a too easy way to create fear and turn out votes for her. She ended up in the FairTax "Hall of Shame" for this reason only--not because of her party affialiation or because she follows President Obama. Democrats are needed to win the FairTax and are as warmly welcomed as Republicans, Libertarians, Independents and all those who have given up on politics. The FairTax unites.

Increasingly, voters who know the FairTax are seeing through such deceptive ads and using them is backfiring on operatives and candidates. Not a moment too soon--the country desperately needs the job creation, economic stimulus and honesty about government debt and spending that the FairTax can immediately produce.
