The Sacramento International Sportmen's Expo hosts BSA Adventure Base 100 at Cal Expo, State Fairgrounds, on January 21-24, 2010.  Adventure Base 100 is a 10,000-square-foot interactive traveling exhibit and base camp designed to give people an exciting hands-on view of Boy Scouts of America's 100 year history.

BSA wants people to experience Scouting like never before. America's largest youth service organization is delivering the fun and adventure of Scouting right into the communities of countless Americans with Adventure Base 100. Couch potatoes be warned; Scouting is cool, contemporary, high-adventure fun.

"What Scouting has to offer young people and families is just too critical not to seize the day," commented BSA Chief Scout Executive Bob Mazzuca while talking to young Scouts at the inaugural Pasadena California stop, last week.

AB100 has activities that capture the Scout spirit of adventure while simultaneously focusing on the five core principles of Scouting: character, leadership, outdoor, achievement and service.

Here is a sample of AB100 featured activities at Cal Expo on January 21:

1.  A high adventure ropes course for visitors more than 4 feet tall weighing less than 200 pounds.
2.  Go Scouting! Dome. A multi-sensory IMAX experience. Sights, smells and sounds of Scouting.
3.  Hands-on digital, interactive exhibit that engages people while telling the Scout story.
4.  Zip line for all visitors more than 4 feet tall weighing less than 200 pounds.
5.  A traveling museum featuring artifacts from the National Scouting Museum in Irving, TX.
6.  BSA's 100th Anniversary National Time Capsule. See artifacts from Councils across the country.
7.  A stage show featuring contests, trivia and skills demonstrations from local Boy Scouts.
8.  Build and race your own virtual Pinewood Derby car.
9.  A Green Screen photo booth.
10. A chance to interact with Scouts and Scouters, ask questions and learn about Scouting.

The Northern California stop is the fourth stop of 40+ markets in 37 states. Adventure Base 100 opened to the public for the first time on January 1, 2010 immediately after the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena California.

The fully-booked tour schedule is carefully choreographed to take advantage of Scout Council locations, regional local events and the weather. It isn't an accident that the first dozen tour stops take place in the West, Southwest and Florida. The ambitious schedule concludes in New York City in November 2010 at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

AB100 is indoors at CalExpo in the Pavilion, so don’t let the rain scare you! In fact, the Sportsmen’s Expo is a great indoor activity for a rainy day. Come on down!
