"Cotto is going to be hard on us" is the Freddie Roach quote that Nick Giongco reports in his piece for the Manila Bulletin. Such, however, is not news. Roach has understood from the beginning that Miguel Cotto is not Ricky Hatton or Oscar De La Hoya. "If [Manny] stays on the ropes, he'd get beat," Roach said.
With the two prior opponents, Freddie was almost able to predict the second of the round that Manny Pacquiao would win the fight. The thing about knocking Cotto out in the first round, however, was mental ploy according to The Ring. Freddie doesn't really believe it and neither should you. Regardless, is Manny ready or not?
If you've followed Manny's career, then you know that his training habits are unorthodox. You also know that he finds a way, his way, to get ready for fight night. We've been sold the "bad camp" story before, but the stark reality is that Pacquiao is the number 1 fighter in the world and he hasn't lost a fight since Erik Morales squeaked out a unanimous decision in March 2005. In fact, Freddie recently told The Ring's Michael Rosenthal that Manny is "100% ready." Of course he is.
Sure Roach is not having the camp that he wants. The typhoon, the "adviser" throw downs, Manny's basketball addiction and the rest of it are distractions from Miguel Cotto preparation. Roach hates distractions. If he can give a quote or two to light a fire under Pacquiao, then so be it. Either way, Cotto is going to be a hard test and everyone this side of General Santos City knows it.
Forget the power v. speed, little man v. big man arguments. Cotto is a hard fight for one simple reason: pride. Manny confused De La Hoya more than anything and he simply capitalized on Ricky Hatton's numerous flaws. Great victories no doubt, but the two men are not Miguel Cotto. Cotto is faster than both of them. Cotto is stronger than both of them. Cotto will not walk into Manny's left hook or any other punch, and he most certainly will not quit on his chair. Cotto is going to be there for all 12 rounds. So will Manny.
In boxing lexicon, pride is synonymous with heart, guts, warrior spirit or whatever else you want to call it. Pride is going to force Cotto to attack Pacquiao in a variety of ways. Pride is going to push Pacquiao onward after he feels Miguel's power the first time. Then round 2 will begin.
Without question, Roach has developed a plan to defeat Miguel Cotto. Likewise, Joe Santiago believes that he has unlocked the Pacquiao mystery. Freddie may not be happy and Santiago may be new at the head trainer gig, but this is not a trainer's fight--it's a throwback. Don't believe the hype about fight preparations. The only certainty is that both men will be ready on November 14th. Ready to win or die trying.

Cotto has been proven to handle HAND speed. Yes hand speed only. Pacquiao does NOT only have hand speed, it is his footwork that is also fast, his legs are bigger and in combination with his whole body it amplifies the power of his punch. His latereal movements are like no other boxer. He can dart in and out of range.
He’s also no longer the left hand boxer that he used to be, his right hand has tremendously improved. He has proven that he can carry his speed and strength going up in weight and the physical differences between Manny and Miguel are not that big. In some physical attributes, pacquiao has the advantage.

There is no 100% certainty but based on all the evidence, 95% probability Pacquiao will win! Cotto has a 5% chance of executing his trademark left hook not on the body but on the balls of Manny. Manny better wear plaster of paris on his briefs.

Cotto is not fast, judging by the way he works out on the heavy bag. What he will bring to the ring for Pacquiao that Dela Hoya and Hatton didn't is his ring IQ. He beat mosley not because he could match mosley speed, but because he didn't try to. He counter punched well, the way Marquez did to Pacquiao. Unlike Marquez, Cotto hits hard. On the other hand, unlike Mosely, Pacquiao fights on his toes, not flatfooted, allowing him to dance in an out and sideways. This could be the difference.

You know what. Ive been telling my friends about the Pacquiao Puzzle. All of his opponents and their strategists pinpointed all of Pacquiao's flaws based on what theyve so far seen. And still, Pacquiao defied tremendous odds, went through huge disadvantages and kept on winning. Beristain have noticed Manny's unusual style short of saying that he has no style. The answer to the puzzle lies on Manny's instinctive fighting he developed since he started boxing. He fought aggressively, offensively, non-stop. His defense is his offense. His non-stop punching style, strong desire and love of the sport developed his superpower-punching fists and the speed that put more strength in it. And the strategy and tactics put in his fight plan is just an easy task for him. Pacquiao's fighting style is not easily comprehensible. Pacquiao is a born fighter and fights by instinct.

I believe Cotto can only land some of his power shots. I hope Pacquiao is aware on that. But once he can take the power of those bombs coming from Cotto, which I believe he can, considering that he received some of those from Porter, then the fight is over. Bunches of power punches will come in all angles raining towards the Boricua Bomber. Cotto should be ready on that but sure is, he cannot hide.

Cotto will be gaunt and physically weak during the weigh in and will become sluggish after rehydration and during the fight with Pacquiao. His only consolation is his share of millions of $. If he will come out healthy, he will forget campaigning in the welterweight and consider fighting instead at the junior middleweight and middleweight divisions.

Hmmm... if all is destined to be I think Miguel will be humbled by Emmanuel. Why? Because where will the One side to? And don't you think the other is mimicking the One?
