MORE BREAKING NEWS: BOB ARUM SAYS MANNY PACQUIAO'S NEXT FIGHT WILL BE NOVEMBER 13 WHETHER IT IS AGAINST MAYWEATHER, MARGARITO OR A TBA FOE

MICHAEL MARLEY'S PHILIPPINE DIARY, PART 21:

EXCLSUIVE PHOTO SIDESHOW BELOW

GENERAL SANTOS CITY--Manny Pacquiao never raises his hands in victory until an opponent is completely and thoroughly beaten.

You saw that when the Pinoy Idol hammered Ricky Hatton into the canvas and when he made prohibitive favorite Oscar de la Hoya, bloodied and bruised, quit on his ring stool.

Pacman's boxing custom, not to celebrate until victory is really assured, has carried over to politics where here is now at 8:45 pm, local time, on the verge of a possible landslide victory over billionaire Roy Chiongbian in the race for the coveted Congressional seat from Sarangani.

I am at Pacman's personal "Pentagon" where campaign director and friend Zaldy Du have been working for months to get their man elected from the province which is a neighbor to Manny's hometown city.

Pacquiao is smiling and promoter Bob Arum is bordering on the verge of a happy delirium.

But foe Chiongbian shows no sign of conceding to Pacman right now, not yet.

I told Megamanny that Michael Buffer would have to introduce him as "the Honorable..."

Pacquiao smiled but put a finger to his lip to say let's not do anything prematurely.

Within a half hour or so, Pacquiao may be declaring victory for a prize he really he wanted.

The fighter who raised himself from a wicked, abject poverty to fame and wealth with his powerful fists has long expressed his sincere desire to go into public service.

"I know the needs of the poor people," Pacquiao said. "I want to help them, I really do."

To people who doesn´t know how is the real politics in the Philippines, it´s about time to keep quiet and keep their negative opinions to themselves. A lot of people are scared and living in poverty and they don´t know who they can trust. Now suddenly appeared a person who is already proven helping people even before he even think to go to politics. That´s Pacquiao and a lot of poor people really, really need him. So if the politics is Pacquiaos destiny, so be it. It´s early to say but congratulations to Congressman Manny Pacquiao!

You can kiss the Mayweather fight goodbye now that the Pacman is an honorable congressman who is sworn to work hard in the halls of Congress. How the hell will he find the time to train (8 weeks) for this major fight. Be away from him main work debating(?) in the halls of Congress. I have my doubts he can be "good" at two things at the same time. No chance in hell.

Manny has done another FIRST. The first boxer to hold 7 titles and also the first to be elected in congress. Others, like the late Arguello of Nicaragua (Mayor), were elected after retirement.
With all his accomplishments (in and out of boxing), he deserves the accolade of the GOAT. I don't think Floyd will be able to do this. His eyes can only see the $$$ sign. Public service is GREEK to him.

This is why the Philippines is where they are at in the world. They would rather vote in an illiterate actor as President and a world champion boxer who can barely articulate his thoughts as a congressman. I love Manny as a fighter. But as a politician? Let's be honest people. I will be embarrassed as a Filipino if he ever becomes President. We will be, if we aren't already, the laughing stock of the world.

MG, it's very seldom to have somebody like Manny who is very disciplined and focused when he wants to achieve something. Despite his money, power and fame, he still trains like hell when there is a fight. That's what makes him a great person. He always have the desire to satisfy everyone. Everytime he wins, he wants to share it with everybody.
Multi-tasking is not new to Manny and I think he can do it. I happen to have a lot of insights of what's going on in Phil congress and I believe that Manny is better than those highly educated congressmen I know in the past.
Here in Florida, Rubio is my guy. Charlie Crist just nailed his coffin when he abandoned the republican primary.

even though we dont want manny to be in politics,it is his dessire to do it,manny make pilipino proud, when ever he climb to the ring he always bring glory to our nation the philippines, and we call him our very own manny, when he plan to run in congress and want to represent his town of gen, santos city im the one who agains it,but i think to my self how selfish i am for not letting manny get what he want,he make us proud he make our country proud, and this is the time to pay him back let him do what he want to help mybe that is only he want, but gen, santos city did not give it to him,my question is why?after all the things he did to us and when michael buffer said from gen, santos city philippines they should think about that manny came from gen, santos and they should supported him,you are selfish gen, santos city, you should think about that,...you should the one who supported manny instead not saranggani but thanks to saranggani for giving manny a chance,MABUHAY KAYO,....

    Mr. Marley,
I understand that you had a chance to meet with a filipino scribe named Edwin Espejo. He must be really irate right now that Pacman is ahead of the race. As you know this guy Espejo started bashing the Pacman when the latter declared his desire to enter the congressional race. This guy has written in a subtle way to statements like the Pacman as womanizer and gambler to name a few. I suspect this guy is on the payroll from the other side.

I'm embarrassed for my people. We are the laughing stock of the world because this election is a circus. Do people not realize that? I'm appalled at the stupidity of my people. The best and the brightest, the people who would have been able to make a difference, left the Phils during the 60s, 70s, and early 80s. The Philippines only export now is cheap labor and nurses. If Manny ever becomes the President, I will claim to be anything but a Filipino. I love him as a fighter not as a politician.

You know the truth is Manny is a great fighter and that’s it! The fact that he wants to help his people is admirable but the reality is that you’re talking about a very complex position that requires HIGHLY educated people who can view things on their own from a number of different perspectives. Generally, people in any congress have MBA’s and a number of degrees in a variety of disciplines. Manny will have to rely on people to help him frame a legitimate well rounded perspective and that’s a big problem because if you’re not educated enough on your own to understand the key factors of a particular issue then your going to be manipulated by those around you. This is ridiculous and I personally love Pacquiao but the people who voted him in are ridiculous and will get dumb legislation as a result!

congratulations Manny!!! guys give Manny a break and let's not judge him by his education. Public servant's number one important thing is heart. let him do his thing because Manny has its own decision and he's not stupid that people around him can easily swing him. he's grown up with enough with experience in life and knows what really life is. there's one reader here commented about MBA or Masteral degree or variety of discipline are essential in that congressional position because it is a complex job. it's true but over years have we seen what they have done? we need a servant that makes actions not just straightaway and could understand the basic needs of the people. MOST OF THE HIGLY EDUCATED POLITICIAN ARE JUST STTING ON THEIR BUTT JUST DO TALKING AND WRITING THESE AND THAT BUT THEY DON'T HAVE THE COMMON SENSE THAT THEY COULNDN'T SEE SIMPLE THINGS FOR THE PUBLIC NEEDS.
