There is only ONE Manny Pacquiao

There is only one HIM

He lost his 12th professional fight by third round knock-out in his homeland of the Philippines.

Thirteen fights later, rebounding, he captured his first world title as a flyweight via 8th round knock-out against Chatchai Sasakul in Thailand.

In his second defense of the belt, at twenty-years of age, Medgoen Singsurat knocked him out in the third round.

Seven wins later, the young fighter caught the eyes of American fight fans for the first time on the under card of Oscar De La Hoya's bout with Javier Castillejo, as he stopped Lehlohonolo Ledwaba in six rounds to capture a super bantamweight title.

In his next fight, I saw him for the first time in a tough technical draw against the now deceased Dominican tough man Agapito Sanchez.  The fight was stopped due to a cut that was produced near his eye by a headbutt in the second round...I was not impressed.

On July 26, 2003, he made me wrong for the first of many times.  Going into a fight against then undefeated Emannuel Lucero, I picked against himHe knocked out Lucero for a victory.

His next fight, he did the impossible, ruined my birthday and knocked out the then seemingly untouchable featherweight kingpin (and my favorite boxer, of the time) Marco Antonio Barrera.  Now title changed hands, but he was the best featherweight in the world.

Immediately after testing Barrera, he jumped in with an unsung Mexican pugilist by the name of Juan Manuel Marquez and quickly dumped the master boxer three times in the first round en route to a memorable draw.

The following year, Tijuana toughman Erik Morales took a spirited decision from him.  Some who thought he was over-rated, felt the end was near for the rising star.

To his credit, he then went and beat Morales, decisively by knock-out two times and captured another world title, now at super featherweight.

But the doubters kept asking what about him giving Barrera and Marquez another opportunity, surely, lightening could not strike twice?

It did, he defeated Barrera and Marquez, again, in that order

To make his legend grow even larger and his countrymen adore him even more, he captured a lightweight title against David Diaz by stoppage in the 9th.

Lightweight was not enough, as he then faced the man who all of boxing wanted to fight at the time, for the money, but he made it about the glory, Oscar De La Hoya.

I predicted the larger De La Hoya would brutalize him, and make him do a "chicken dance" after a receiving a left-hook to the head; I was wrong.

This small man from humble beginnings, who carried the hopes of a nation of his shoulder, and who was physically much smaller than the bigger De La Hoya, but who has a larger heart, made "The Golden Boy" quit on his stool.

Had he accomplished enough?  No, there were still doubters.

He beat an older De La Hoya, he needs to fight a larger man with a pulse, many fans and experts argued.

In came Ricky Hatton, the true "king" of the junior welterweights.

Guess what?  Tonight in Las Vegas, Nevada, before thousands of Ricky Hatton's fans and countrymen, he knocked out the Brit in two rounds.

There is only one him.

There is only one Manny Pacquiao.

now we're talking business ricardo. manny will retire as the only 7-division champ after he beats either mosley or cotto for a welterweight title. and his legacy fight will be a thunderous beating of either mayweather or marquez. what do you think?

don't blame ricardo. a lot of people were doubters before but now are pacquiao believers. again i would reiterate pacquiao would retire as the best boxer of all time. this is not blasphemy. let's just be happy that we're living and are witnessing the manny pacquiao era.

Great job Manny!!! Ricardo - Great Article (always a big fan of your views)!!!!!

He came, he saw, he conquered. Pac was at his finest tonight when he literally destroyed Hatton, and he gave us Pinoys a boost of Filipino pride. Seeing our flag waved for thousands in the ring to see and millions worldwide to take notice, Manny Pacquiao showed us what Filipinos can accomplish with hard work, perseverance and faith in God.

Indeed truly there's only ONE Pacman. once a wet market bystander whom carrying goods and got paid for a $1 a day way in his own home town General Santos City, Philippines. One of the Humbliest Boxer in History from a third world country who dreams of prosperity not for himself but for his family. This Filipino legend is truly one of the worlds greatest fighter.

I'm glad you are a believer now but sadly even a win like that some are still underestimating his power. Sometimes there is a fighter that does not really want to hurt another fighter in the ring (I think he held back his power against Dela Hoya). I hope the Mayweather wont be as ignorant as the other fighter think its just speed behind that punch.

Pacquiao's performance made a believer out of me. I knew Hatton would be a handful, and that Pac's easy wins against Diaz and Dela Hoya were flukes, although Dela Hoya and Diaz admitted that they had trained their best and felt in tip top shape. And now, Hatton, who never had an answer to Pacquiao's feints and punches. It's really a shock.

Thank you for the kind words on our hero Manny Pacquiao. like Loisah said, funny stuff. I agree with most of what you said, except the Sanchez fight. Give Pacquiao credit, he displayed such sportsmanship against a fighter who clearly should not be a boxer because he literally broke every rule in the book! I imagine any boxer worth his salt would have trouble against a boxer who intentionally headbutts, lowblows, tackles, hugs, rabbitpunching. I commend Pacquiao for keeping his cool and being such a good sportsman.

I don't understand you guys. Maybe Mr Lois isn't a Pacquiao fan, but that's his prerogative, just like we have ours. He isn't breaking any law. And besides, a critic like Ricardo is kind of a driving force that motivates Pacquiao to get better and better and try the seemingly impossible, if just to prove his critics wrong. Now that somehow Mr Lois has come to the realization that he's been wrong all along, why not just welcome him to the fold? It's nice of him to give credit where credit is due. And if you're a real Pacquiao fan, why not at least give yourself a chance to follow your hero's example? Pacquiao, the man, doesn't nurture any grudge in his heart.

Well, Pacnuts were bashed by a lot of so-called boxing experts ... Pacnuts are always right in their predictions before Manny fights - so whose the expert now, and who are the real NUTS ... after demolishing Diaz, idiot experts say that Diaz was not a true champion, they celebrated Marquez close win over a washed-up Casamayor as the true lightweight champ ... Manny beat the pulp out of Dela Hoya, again the idiot experts who predicted a mismatch for Dela Hoya were saying that it was a fluke, then they celebrated again the win of Marquez over a second-rate fighter Juan Diaz - some even called him the true pound-for-pound king.

Now, Manny devastated again another top-notch guy in a way that Gayweather could not even imagine ... if you're just telling now that you are already a believer and you are calling yourself a boxing expert - you're in the wrong job man ...or you're just a third-rate lousy boxing sports writer

Well,Pacman only beats washed up fighters named Barrera, Morales, Marquez, de la Hoya, Hatton, and many others. The Pacman is a lousy boxer whose punches can't hurt a fly,but nobody saw the punches coming in at blinding speed. These are the words coming from all these fighters, including Trainer Mayweather. What other excuses are available? Pacman is indeed the best boxer of the century!!!No BS, pure facts only.

Certainly not Floyd, Manny has nothing to gain against him. He should fight Mosley for his Belt. But because all the gain will be for Mosley he should sacrifice by lowering his weight to 142, that is if he is looking for big payday or else he can forget it. it is an offer Manny can't refuse. Bob should not push a match against the retired one. Let the retired and retirable muscle it up. Or anyone in the welterweight belt holder who is willing to sacrifice by lowering his weight. I there is no one brave enough may be a chance to win all of Hattons belt. Make him redeem him self before retirement.

The dumb ones fight over this mex-fil BS but really it is because of loyalty in an irrational way. Pacman represent more Filipinos because he respects the opponents, including the greats morales and barrera. Anyway. congratulations Manny!
