On Sunday night one of boxing's legendary media figures Larry Merchant made an innuendo that a bout between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao may be close to being finalized.
While appearing on The Boxing Truth Radio, Merchant made the following statement regarding the proposed fight:
"Yes, I do believe it is going to happen in November. What exclusively I have heard, I cannot reveal entirely, but I think most of the issues have been resolved. It does not mean they won't find something else."
Merchant's long time status as an HBO Boxing on-air analyst gives him access to information most journalist cannot access regarding the network's inner-workings, and Merchant's statements should give optimism to fight fan's who want this question settled: who is better, Pacquiao or Mayweather.

Yes, i believe it should be catchweight for a level playing field. Floyd can redeem his bad image by fighting the smaller Pacquiao at a catchweight, same as JMM fight or lower at 142 - 143 lbs.

Once the fans lost interest in him, that is only time he will fight someone who he thinks can beat him. Once he made a lot of money fighting patsies, he will retire. he will not fight legit contender and then claim "Manny did not want to fight me." I am the best. etc. etc. chicken!
The fight may answer the question of who will win but not the question of who is the better fighter pound for pound. The question, "Who is the better boxer POUND FOR POUND" also means "Who is the better boxer IF BOTH WERE OF THE SAME NATURAL WEIGHT." Mayweather belongs to a higher natural weight category and has other important physical advantages, e.g., height, reach, etc., as well due to being naturally bigger. Hence, a victory by Mayweather over Pacquiao will not necessarily prove that the former is better than the latter POUND FOR POUND.

Part of our highest human potential is the perfection of universal, unconditional love. We are all in a journey towards that goal. We must not allow our attachment to our sporting heroes generate hatred in any manner if we are to promote sportsmanship (an ally of love, peace, understanding, etc.) as a cultural value. It is already bad that many boxing fans watch boxers fight only to satisfy nothing more than a disguised thirst for blood rather than love for the sport. To show hatred for each other through nasty comments does boxing (as a noble sport) an even greater disservice. I hope to see the day when boxing fans respect each other…
