So Floyd Mayweather Junior hung out with iconic promoter Don King Thursday night causing a tidal wave of buzz through out boxing’s knitting circle.
On his official Twitter page, Floyd Mayweather wrote the following two messages last night:
“The Cash King and Money May”
and
“I'm chillin with Don King”
Unfortunately any business relationship between King and Mayweather is about a five years too late.
I would be have been a lot more interested if Floyd twitter’ed, “I am fighting Manny Pacquiao on November 13, move over Antonio Margarito”
Mayweather can hang out with Don King all weekend long down in South Florida, but that does not change the failed negotiations surrounding boxing’s biggest fight.
If Don King was Mayweather’s official promoter, I believe we would not be in the predicament we are in now.
Mr. King has a way of seducing fighters into his promotional outfit, then doing what he wants with them - not the other way around.
Mayweather may walk to the beat of his own drummer, thanks to Bob Arum, Richard Schaefer, Al Haymon, and Oscar De La Hoya, but Mr. King does not play that game.
See, Don King - for all of his short-comings, has not forgotten his place within boxing. Don King acts like what he is, and nothing else.
When it comes to the business of boxing, Don King is the boss and his fighters are the employees, be it by hook or by crook.
So Mr. Boxer, you don’t want to fight? That is okay by Mr. King, he will put you on the shelf for as long as your promotional contract lasts and if the fighter objects and wants to go to court over breech of contract, that is okay as well.
Mr. King has deep pockets and powerful lawyers to make sure his way, is the right way.
Maybe if he was not babied by Arum’s Top Rank and now Schaefer’s Golden Boy, Mayweather would have been is great fights the last three to four years on a consistent basis.
It is way too late for Don King to get in Mayweather’s soup and make a difference, as the lunatic is running his own personal asylum, but I ponder if Money would have been able to hustle King.

The thing is, King will not be inside the ring with Floyd to fight Manny. So what's the difference? Manny will be the same Manny in the ring no matter who your promoter is. And I thought Floyd is his own boss and he is his own promoter.
