Ever since World Boxing Organization 140 champion Timothy Bradley beat up Lamont Peterson recently, he has been thought of as a sparring partner for Manny Pacquiao by some in the media.
Well I consider these people mental midgets when it comes to understanding boxing.
It's an insult to Bradley, who I wrote and consider a prospective future opponent for Manny Pacquiao.
By the same token, Pacquiao just can't befriend every single fighter he likes and make them his sparring partner. They might want to fight him some day.
Amir Khan doesn't want to be thought of as a sparring partner. Freddie Roach should have to start separating them someday soon.
Bradley has made two World Boxing Council title defenses and now two WBO defenses and certainly has something good going on for himself. He's 25-0 (11 KO's) and needs to go as far as he can and not as a sparring partner.
The big paydays will dry up quick when the public sees you're just a sparring partner. I'd rather be paid than be liked.
Bradley doesn't have a 'sparring partner' mentality. He has a 'main event' mentality.
Remember heavyweight Oliver McCall? He was a Mike Tyson sparring partner, but incredibly, even by promoter Don King standards, McCall started moving up the ratings to No. 1 contender and after not fighting for over a calender year, lands a lucky punch against Lennox Lewis and becomes the heavyweight champion. That's the exception.
McCall was always a better challenger than champion because of the 'sparring partner' mentality he had. He won and promptly lost the title a second time.
So everybody just lay off Timothy Bradley and maybe a year from now he'll be competitive and at the same weight as Manny Pacquiao and we'll have a good competitive fight on our hands.

I was shocked at how non competitive the Bradley-Peterson fightwas. I thought it was gunna be even. Bradley may be a good match up in about a yr no doubt.
Funny you said that. I remember he's a Floyd Mayweather Jr. sparring partner for the Marquez fight. Sparring with the best can be a good test of what level he is right now, I don't see what's "mental midget" about that. If anything that's a good experience for an up and comer.
Roach wants Bradley to spar with Manny. So, he's a "mental midget", huh? That makes you a genius, then?
Wow I think Desert Storm would jump at that opportunity just in case he does fight Manny in the future. That would be almost as stupid as this article you wrote. Get Timothy Bradleys balls out chya mouf'. I beg to differ on this one!
Bradley is a fluke. He should not be used a PacMan's sparring partner because he will surely get KOed each and every round.
Fake columnist, fake journalist, just a pop-out writer.
He has no statement of facts nor a single quotation to bak up his claim. Very sad. He should not be writing.
There's is more to gain by being a sparring partner to a pound-for-pound king. It is such an intensive training engagement.
This pop-out writer must such up his own words.
bradley will become a sparring partner to anyone if the price is right
This is an opinion based article. We're reading what the writer thinks and not what is actually the truth. Not until someone credible in T. Bradley's team say's they're not interested, I think it will be a great opportunity for anyone to be Pacman's sparring partner. After all, if you really want to fight Pacman sooner or later, better learn what he's capable off before you fight him. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
This is a good article nonetheless. Kudos to Mr. Writer.
I don't think one is a mental midget to think of Bradley sparring w/ the greatest boxer in the planet today. If I were Bradley, I would take this as a great opportunity for me to hone my skills and be great like Pacquiao someday. It's also a chance for him to measure up Pacquiao is he (Bradley) is really in the same league with him. To Tim, take this up, it a plus for you than minus.
this writer is the true mental midget here guys.
Your comments dont make any sense. Sparring with Manny Pacquaio will not only make Tim Bradley better, but it will raise his profile. All of a sudden this guy will be making a very good account of himself on HBO's Pacquiao-Mayweather. He'd be linked to the biggest event in boxing history and get a true measure of Amir Khan to boot. I can think of many fighters who became champions or better champions as a result of elite sparring. What's wrong with you?
Mental midget? And you Mental What? Expert? or Illutionist of Opinions.
Mr. Author... it seems according to you.., sparring partners need not to fight each other in a championship contest. You are not digging your sources very well. Citing Ali and Holmes among others, long time sparring partners.., met each other in a world Heavyweight championship. Boxers even in deep friendship will just do their job beating each other if circumstances need it.
What are you trying to enforce is an insult to Zab Judah who is eyed as sparring partner of Mayweather.
well it make bradley proud to be mannys punching bag you know why 1st his level of fighting will raise and he can determine if he is capable someday to fight with manny and learn too.but if he insist to fight with manny he will look like a rooten tomato can you imagine what manny done to cotto and bradley is dreamin to fight with manny?that could be his bad dream.
larry holmes used to be a sparring partner...remember
This writer is the one insulting Bradley, look at Khan now, he improves a lot as he spar with pac...
dont forget that bradley is just a piece of **** and nothing more.
Bradley is a bum. who cannot dispose or ko his opponent inside the ring.
I seldom comment on Matt's articles...but this one is just a lame piece of literature
Dumbasss writer!!!!!
Another piece of garbage writer expressing his though and trying to be so called great writer,,,,, NON SENSE at all. That doesnt mean you're a great fighter you can't train and spar great fighter, that could be a big advantage for Bradley too and he knows it, so many angles that it ok to work together.
crap!
WHAT THE F**K ARE YOU MUMBLING MATT, YOU'RE SUCH AN INUTILE DUMB, TRYING TO BE A GURU OF BOXING.. WRITE SOMETHING SENSIBLE MAN.. YOU'RE SUCH A LOUSY MORON....... A HOLE!!!!
Bradley fight with manny? He should beat cotto, hatton, and mosley first. Then he will be considered as a manny opponent.
Again, what a stupid article.
I told you guys this writer is a piece of crap,.. Congratulations Mr. writer you have made the silliest article of 2009,...
How would you know what's in Bradley's head?
We want to hear from him instead, do interviews of any sort Mr. Stoloser...
Go back to your regular job as a bagger at the grocery store! "Wanna Boxing Guru"
so what! its no big deal.bradley is just one of the options to be manny's srarring mate.there are still a lot out there willing.
dont be foolish matt after manny beat floyd well make him sparring partner too...
What's wrong by being a sparring partner if you can learn something from the session. Manny Pacquiao is the sparring partner of Khan. Did it make him lesser of a person or boxer? Stupid...
shane was a sparring partner of oscar when he fought pbf as i remember.
Stolow, you are an IGNORANT IDIOT. "Midget Mentality" ... I am a
midget, so what's wrong with that.
timothy bradley has a similarity to monggofloyd gayweather jr. thus they belong to one black fighter tribe lol...
Matt Stolow, I know you're a Floyd fan. Why don't you suggest Tim Bradley to fight Mayweather? are you afraid Tim will beat your man? why Pacman only? You should not belong to the Examiner guys.
If Bradley is smart, he'll take that sparring offer. He can measure up the strength and skill of a future opponent and customize when you actually do battle with him in the ring. If he will not take it and let that pride come in, then he can never be smarter than Mr. Matt Stolow.
In the case of Khan, he knows that when the time comes to call Pac in the ring, he can customize well and beat Pac. But he will not go there against Pac because Pac and everybody knows where that Achilles heel is, right below the ear called 'pimples'. So he will be just a sparing partner if he wants to rule there for so long and learn instead from every session he'll take against Manny.
MORON!
Matt Stolow , How come you become a writer? You don't have a BRAIN man. This is an opportunity for Bradley. Everybody knows that, How come you don't?
lol @ comments. give the guy a break.
i always not to read your moronic writings...and this the very few that i read wand yes, you are a MORON!!!
A number of former sparring partners became champs eventually. Get the facts. It is even an opportunity for the sparring partner to be familiar with the boxing technics of the fighter he is sparring with. Bradley has all to gain. An opportunity for him also to shine since all names that get attached with Pacman at present gets the world attention as well. I doubt if Pacquiao will actually fight another match after PBF since he is getting into politics.
You are excluding Bradley to be a part of history in case you are doing this without Bradley's knowledge. No one in his right mind would decline such an offer if we are talking of posterity. Such guys as Khan, Porter, and Champ Castillo who were selected to spar with the real deal, have enviable place in modern history which will be written soon should Mr. Pacquiao hurddle the fight with Mr. Mayweather in flying colors come March 13. And ask these people if their popularity and expertise were diminished practicing with the throwback. The opposite happened. And according to them their experience was enriched with what the charismatic champ and Team Pacquiao had to share. And one word of caution, Bradley should not even dream to fight Pacquiao. Instead, if invited, he should learn what is inside this man. A good boxing sense for him is to let this man pass into the portal of history. Only Nature can resist the destruction brought about by Pacific Typhoon at this point in time.
tarantado ka!!ulol!! gago!!kawawa ka naman di mo maintindihan!!
You're all about pride man! You're not in for learning.....
What is PRIDE for when you ain't gonna learn nothing?
In boxing it's not just about PRIDE, it's about learning, and by learning, you slowly reach your Prime, where does the f u c k i ng pride take you? yeap... DOWN! Midgets think better than you ugly looking f a g!
Good article Matt, champions shouldn't be anyone's sparring partners, even Pacquiao's. Khan is only sparring with him because they have the same trainer.
Matt, you are a disgrace writer. You have just insulted yourself just like the way you insulted the sparring partners in general calling them midget minded. Have you had a talk to those sparring partners? Don't you know that those boxers that sparred with Manny were glad and appreciative and not one ever said bad of their experiences being as a spar mate. You just don't know how much they have learned by doing it. To redeem yourself go out and interview those boxers that sparred with Manny so you will know how they feel, and their thoughts as a sparring partners.
HEY DOOR MATT USOLOW... YOU SOUNDS LIKE BRADLEYS BIACHI!!!
ARE YOU HIS OFFICIAL SPOKE PERSON, THAT YOU'RE SO SURE HE DOESN'T WANT TO SPAR WITH PACQUIAO? WHY DID HE TELL YOU THAT PERSONNALY.
UNLESS HE TELLS THAT IN PUBLIC, YOU DONT ASSUMED OR MAKE A FIRE OUT OF A LITTLE SMOKE OF YOURS THAT HE WILL NOT AGGREE TO BECOME ANYBODY'S SPARRING PARTNER! yOU ARE PATHETIC!
AND OH DO USE READERS A FAVOR...CHANGE YOUR PICTURE ON YOUR COLUMN...YOU LOOK LIKE A DORK!!!
This writer and Tim are both dreaming a fight with Manny will happen in the future. Tim, I personally think you won't last a round with Valero. What do you think Matt?
bradley cant even defeat decisively a low class campbell and he's dreaming to dance w/ pacquiao. what a big head!!! keep on dreaming your dream, its free. thats goes with your ego mr. stolow "LOW".
Stolow.... s u c k b r a d l e y s d i c k y o u P U T O ! ! !
why the hell wouldn't he accept it if the money makes sense? it's not for you to decide. tim bradley can speak for himself. if he doesn't want to, so be it. nobody is forcing him to do anything against his will.
did you know that Larry Holmes was Ali's former sparring partner? Ali vs Holmes heavyweight title fight did happen in 1980.
