"Short Money" Mayweather

Say it ain't so Pretty Boy!

The old saying, "A fool and his money are soon parted" certainly rings true today. Floyd Mayweather, Jr. should be embarrassed, even humiliated as to the public disclosure of his finances.

Now, legitimate people lose their fortunes every day in this economy due to losing their jobs, medical emergencies, the continual stock market crash, etc. But many have an opportunity to continue to work and stay current. So that is not what I'm talking about.

Floyd Mayweather, Jr,.as has been shown on the HBO Boxing 24/7 series, likes to gamble on sports. I mean big bucks. He blows his money in night clubs, loans it to friends, etc. But the big black hole for Floyd, is the silly rap music recording label that several high-profile black boxers and other athletes have succumbed to recently.

I remember growing up in football - crazy Dallas and hearing the stories in the late 1970s and early 1980s of the young, famous, black bachelor, high draft choices losing all their bonus money and then some investing in drilling for oil.

These 22 year old's with minimum education or business experience blew wads of cash getting suckered by flashy, gold chain - wearing hustlers, who the previous week were selling used cars, saying "invest with me."

This all went on up and down the infamous North Dallas Greenville Avenue strip at the nearby Playboy Club, which was housed in the very building of the Cowboys headquarters and Brio and Etc. -clubs owned by investor Bruce Kahn, (no relation to Amir) who is now in Federal Court trying to buy the infamous Chicken Ranch brothel outside of Las Vegas.

All the young Dallas Cowboy wants to do is score with a pretty Cowboys groupie and he ends up signing his life away on a beer-soaked napkin and his money is gone before it hits him.

I hear Mayweather owes at least $6 million legitimate, Probably twice that on the street. These are the type of people that will want their money back with an attitude.

I have to assume he had a cash flow problem before he originally retired and not that he simply won't pay the bills. He made fortunes in the De La Hoya and Hatton promotions, certainly more than most people see in a lifetime, but they pay their taxes and other responsibilities.

He may very well work his way out of his trap with a big fight or two, but the mental anguish, state of denial he is in will trouble him for the rest of his life.

I'm not picking on Floyd, he has brought this on himself.  He's certainly not the first boxer to go down this road. He won't be the last.

Well it happens all the time to successful fighters. Look at Holyfield, last year he was on the brink of having his home foreclosed upon and then suddenly he was able to work his way out. Its too bad when then work their careers and invest in property as their "trophies" for a successful career, and have to lose it. Same with Larry Holmes.
