More sanctioning body chaos! WBC vs. California Saturday night!

need to be resolved. (Photo/Matt Borowick.)

Let's hope Saturday night is alright for fighting and the state of California comes to its senses soon.

Not only problems with Miguel Cotto and his WBO 147 title but the World Boxing Council has officially pulled its sanction of the vacant WBC 140 title from the Showtime Network card Saturday night.

An emergency conference call has been set for later Friday afternoon.

The fight between American Devon Alexander and Brit Junior Witter has been given its blessing by the California State Athletic Commission.

However the officials involved conflict with WBC rules and regulations. The referee is American Lou Moret. But two of the judges are American Jerry Cantu of California and Glenn Trowbridge of Nevada. The third official, Benjamin Rendon, is from Mexico.

The WBC wants one of the two American judges replaced with a foreigner.

The commission, the WBC and the promoters will hopefully come to a conclusion in the conference call.

If the fight is not for the WBC title, Showtime could lower the amount it pays the fighters considerably or even pull the fight off the air. It is part of a Showtime doubleheader and the second fight is not affected. It is between Timothy Bradley and Nate Campbell.

Nate Campbell has the most stupid nickname in boxing. "The Galaxy Warrior?" The boxing world knows he got lucky against Juan Diaz in Mexico. Bradley should give him and his big mouth an ass whippin.

Matt, where is this fight being held.. no mention in your article.

From what I hear the state of california athletic commission has a looming age discrimination lawsuit pending for the way the ex Executive Officer Armando Garcia treated one of its aging inspectors. Seems Garcia entered into an agreement and never followed up, only to have retaliation charges filed against the commission. Coincidence but Garcia was let go shortly after.. The commssion is in a state of flux and these fights are their way of showing they have strength and can push around out of state promoters and the WBC.

Thought I mentioned it. At a casino in Southern California which is 10 minutes from Timothy Bradley's home I believe. At 5:50 PM central time, I learned through the great Don Majeski that California has decided to bring in an international judge to replace one American judge and the fight is on with WBC sanction!

Just to educate you, his nickname is "Galaxy Warrior" because he came out of the Galaxy boxing gym in Florida. Kinda like calling oneself, "The Bronx Bomber".
