WBO world welterweight champion Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao will defend his crown versus Joshua “The Hitter” Clottey March 13 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.
Pacquiao (50-3-2, 38 KOs), the first boxer in history to win seven world titles in seven different weight divisions, made it clear this week that he is not overlooking the formidable Clottey (35-3, 20 KOs).
“Joshua Clottey is taller and bigger than me, and you can not underestimate him,” said Pacquiao, 31. “Because he is a former world champion also.”
Nevertheless, Pacquiao and members of his camp couldn’t resist the urge to chastise “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather, Jr. (40-0, 25 KOs) for the disintegration of their proposed March 13 showdown over drug testing protocol for the fight.
“We don’t have to be geniuses to know what they were trying to do. They were trying to get into Manny’s head so he’d be discombobulated,” claimed Top Rank promoter Bob Arum. “Mayweather against Manny is a no-contest, no contest. Manny would wipe the ring with Floyd Mayweather.”
Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, also chimed in with his sentiments.
“Manny, sometimes when he’s shadowboxing, he shows me how Mayweather fights and how he’ll take care of the problem, and I’ve never seen that before,” said Roach, a native of Dedham, Massachusetts. “We want to fight him (Mayweather) and knock him out.”
Roach, a former professional fighter who now suffers from Parkinson’s disease, has been voted Trainer of the Year by the Boxing Writers Association of America four times and it is evident that he is a true pugilistic mastermind.
Still, it is insane that either Roach or Arum would predict that Pacquiao “would wipe the ring with Floyd Mayweather.”
Granted, Mayweather, currently the second ranked pound-for-pound fighter in the world, is an abrasive and polarizing individual.
Actually, it is suffice to flatly say that Mayweather is an unlikeable public figure.
Despite his litany of character flaws, Mayweather, 33, is unquestionably a student and artist of The Sweet Science.
“Pretty Boy” is a defensive wizard and his overall abilities in the ring would make any prizefighter in history drool.
If, and “if” is the optimum word, Mayweather and Pacquiao ultimately battle, it would be an epic contest for the ages between two of the greatest fighters of this era.
Sure, Pacquiao’s relentless assaults could overwhelm Mayweather and he may emerge with a resounding victory.
Conversely, it is easy to envision Mayweather winning a unanimous decision over Pacquiao by outmaneuvering and flustering the iconic Filipino.
In actuality, a matchup pitting Manny Pacquiao against Floyd Mayweather would be a virtual toss-up.
No matter what were to occur, Pacquiao would absolutely never “wipe the ring with Floyd Mayweather.”

While Floyd is a masterful boxer a fight with Manny just isn't his to win. Floyd doesn't like to rumble. He likes to stand outside and point his way to a victory. This is something Manny wont allow to happen after say, 2 rounds. Hes going to turn it into a dogfight and when that happens Floyd will go into his defensive shell and loose by decision. Had Floyd been everything he claims he would have had a better showing against Oscar. But with Oscar was being the aggressor and Floyd wont risk getting hit so he just covers us. Floyd certainly has the ability to be a counter-puncher but would rather wait until hes back in the middle of the ring to score his points. Oscar lost a split decision to Floyd because Floyd let it get that close. While Marques was easily outpointed by Floyd it certainly wasn't what you'd expect from the self appointed "Greatest Fighter" ever. Floyd has brittle hands and doesnt like to slug. So what he going to do agains Manny? Stay in the fight at best..
Colin Linneweber,
You're a NO-NAME to the sport of boxing. Comparing Pacquiao's abilities to Gayweather's and you're THAT delusional to think Pacquiao wouldn't wipe the floor with Gayweather? Seriously, do you think Gayweather can dodge ALL 1231 punches? I DON'T THINK SO. What planet are you from? Planet Gayweather? Dude, your article is fu-ckin embarrassing and you're a DISGRACE to EXAMINER.COM. You're nothing compared to Rick Rockwell and others who are more educated in the sport of boxing. Resign from Examiner.com before you get ridiculed even more.
"Cotto rightfully questions why Pacquiao won't agree to testing"
GOsh... You still don't get it do you. Manny agreed to the testing days before and immediately after the fight. Just not so close to the fight. Why is this so hard to comprehend.
Manny gets hit too much by mediocre fighters to contend that he will mop the floor with Floyd. Can he win? Yup. Easily? Hell no. He would be fighting the premier defensive fighter of his era. And Floyd is no slouch....he showed well and traded impressively with Corrales (once upon a time) and was none the worse for wear. Again, Floyd is not likable but that does not mean that this makes him any more vulnerable. He IS a boring fight, but his numbers in the end are always terribly lop sided and tell the same story all the time: I was able to hit you, and you were not able to hit me. Thats the name of the game, folks...like it or not.
Also, because apparently many are unclear on this: Pac Man DID NOT agree to Olympic style testing, which is RANDOM...by making amendments to WHEN he would test, he is essentially refusing the Olympic testing...it would be like submitting yourself to a random drug test for your job, as long as they did it on Fridays and Mondays, get it? The test would transform from something random to something SCHEDULED. That was the problem. The better argument for Manny is his rightful assertion that the Olympic style testing is not the mandate of the Nevada Athletic Commish. It is foolish, however, to argue that he ceded the Olympic style testing. He did not, whatever the reason.
he just didnt agree to random blood testing meaning he might have to give blood right up to the fight, he agreeed to random urine tests dickhead. Why doesnt ugly boy fraud lobby the commision for stronger drug testing if he thinks the current testing is inadequate rather than attack the character and bully someone into something they dont have to do under the sports laws. Mayweather is a chickenshit. Plain and Simple.
@D to hit and not get hit is one way to do it. To take a hit then Knock your opponent into unconsciousness is another way to do it.

too many arguments on who is who.....too many writers using these two boxers name just to get more hit on their blog.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. GET THEM BOTH TO THE RING AND LETS FIND OUT. BUT TILL THEYRE ON WAR VERBALLY, EVERYBODY BECAME ON EXPERT ON WHO IS BETTER. HONESTLY? EVEN THESE TWO BOXERS WILL SAY THAT HE IS MUCH BETTER TO WHO.
BUT FOR MY TAKE,,,IF SOMEBODY WILL ASK ME FOR A TACKLE AND I'M SCARED, I JUST TELL THEM TO COME BACK TOMORROW BECAUSE I'M SO HUNGRY. WHEN NEXT DAY COMES, I WOULD SAY NOT NOW FOR I'M STILL FULL, I MIGHT VOMIT WHILE FIGHTING..MEANING? IF YOU DONT WANT TO FIGHT.....ASK FOR SOME MORE OBSTACLE...PLAIN AND SIMPLE.
Got something to say?
