Pink at NY Fashion Week

Zac Posen's Fashion Week runway show for the Spring 2010 collection was shown on Monday, Sep. 14 in the Altman Building.

The entire collection was what we expect from Posen, youthful, sexy, and flirtatious. Altogether, we saw a cohesive collection of bright colors and bold prints.  While there were a lot of noteworthy designs this season from Mr. Posen, this slinky pink party dress was the one to standout. Maybe it's the vivid shade, maybe it's the glittering details reminiscent of Bollywood, or it could even be the sky high slip and halter neck line that makes this dress incomparable to any of it's counter parts. I have a sneaking suspicion it could be all of the above.

This dress is for the young party goer, looking to be the center of attention, and looking to show off without being skimpy. I love that we see this glittering, gown like, curvaceous silhouette, yet we don't see a full length, full on, red carpet style gown. As flashy as it is, it still has that sporty, casual appeal to it. Comfortable and glamourous, what more could a girl want? I can't really say I find it age appropriate for any generation other than the 20-somethings, so I wouldn't call this an investment, but rather a memorabilia piece that will give a girl a lifetime of nostalgia in it's future.

This dress accessorizes itself, so stay away from the jewelry, except for maybe a simple, metallic clutch. Keep the shoe simple and flat, also in a muted metallic, and you will really accentuate the sportiness of this beautiful piece.

Tuleh also showed shades of pink in the Promenade on Sunday, Sep. 13. Another youthful look, but in a more sophisticated and understated pallet, making it more appropriate for not just the 20-somethings, but other generations can enjoy Tuleh's fashion as well.

These pretty pink shorts are flirty with the bow tie waist. They are thigh high, which is always a challenge in the confidence arena for some, however the loose fit, paired with the ruffly tee shirt on top balances the length in a way that will enhance the length of the leg.

Worn as pictured with sandals, or even with flat gladiator sandals, these shorts are effortlessly chic, supremely comfortable, and cute as buttons. Not a lot of thought needs to go into a pair of baby pink shorts. Maybe a reusable canvas tote and some silver bangle bracelettes to accessorize, or let this outfit stand alone.

The true compliment to these shorts is a good tan. If you don't have one, fake one. Try Jergen's Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer for an even, all over, gradual tan to highlight the paleness of the pink as opposed to the paleness of the legs. Jergens is sold at Walgreens for $8.49.

Tadashi Shoji, one of my personal favorites, showed on Monday, Sept 14 in the Salon. This melon shade mini shift dress stood out in the middle of Shoji's collection. Nowhere else in the collection did we see this color, as it was sandwiched between too emerald green dresses. The placement of the bright colors in the line up was genius, in an otherwise neutral pallet.

A bright color pops in spring time, when we are ready to say good bye to drab gray skies, yellowed landscapes, and wind blown everything in the Rockies. This melon shade works for virtually every skin tone. If pink isn't your thing, try melon. It's a shade more red than the standard girlish shade. Uncommon, and more sophisticated than pink, this shade will make your skin glow, and make you look more tan.

The basic shape of the dress is one of the easiest to work with when it comes to accessorizing. You can virtually get away with anything, gold, silver, wood, taking this dress in multitudes of directions, making it a fine investment piece for springs and summers to come.

That being said, there aren't many ways coming to mind to style this dress outside of the warm months. Tadashi Shoji has many pieces in his 2010 collection that could easily make the transition, this dress is not one of them.

Badgley Mischka

Badgley Mischka showed on Tuesday, Sep. 15 in the Tent. Another pink dress that stood out in a runway show filled with black and white. There were a couple of red dresses that also made the walk, but this hot pink silk number was the eye popper of the show, to the point where it seems out of place. Did the model get lost on her way to the runway?

Badgley Mischka, known for their sophisticated and glamourous dresses did not disappoint when it came to party dresses, their forte, but did not have what I would call a stunning ready-to-wear line. While some, like a white silk knee length romper, and a white tux jacket over a black bikini, were right on with the trends, others seemed to be trying to make the jump from a dramatic day look to elegant evening attire less successfully.

This pink dress is perfect for a tall, slender woman with confidence as long as her legs and as sky high as the stilettos she's pairing with this dress. If that is you, then try this dress for an office Christmas party, or to attend a formal, evening wedding. It makes a great LPD.
