The Boston Bruins posted an update on the improvement of center Marc Savard on the Media portion of their website, approximately 45 minutes ago.
“On Tuesday afternoon, Marc Savard passed his neuropsychological testing. He will continue to work towards regaining his game shape, and will have a final meeting with Dr. Kelly McInnis at MassGeneral Hospital before being cleared to play in games. There is no date or time line scheduled for this meeting.”
Now that he’s got the Doctor’s approval, expect to see Savvy start practicing with his teammates in a non-contact red jersey as soon as tomorrow in the Bruins’ morning skate at the TD Garden.
The 32-year-old suffered a Grade 2 concussion back on Mar. 7 and has been doing some skating on his own for the second straight day. In my humble opinion, I wouldn’t expect to see No. 91 out there in playoff competition this season.
Savard was hit with the injury bug all season long -- having played in just 41 games. Prior to the concussion, Savard was sidelined with a broken foot in the middle of October; followed by a MCL tear sustained on Jan. 7 against the Chicago Blackhawks, 0:28 seconds into his first shift of the game.
No. 91 signed a seven-year extension with the Bruins back on Dec. 1, 2009, and tallied 10-23-33 scoring totals in 41 games this season. Entering his fourth season in Boston, Savard missed just eight games in the 2007-08 season, while playing in all 82 contests in each of the other two seasons. Through four season in Black-and-Gold, Savard has totaled 72-233-295, plus-11, 246 penalty minutes, 720 shots on goal, and 279 games played.
