Immigration advocates demand Border Patrol to stop raids in Riverside

About 100 activists rallied today at the site of the U.S. Border Patrol in Riverside to protest against what they called “rogue” tactics against immigrants in the area. Day laborers, community leaders, and immigration activists attended the rally to demand a cease of the raids driven by racial profiling and that continue to divide families, in some cases involving deportations of individuals undergoing a citizenship process.

Representatives of some 10 local and regional organizations held a press conference at the front parking lot of the Riverside Border Patrol station, where they denounced raids that during the month of June –almost every other day, targeted day laborer corners and Latino neighborhoods throughout the Inland Empire.

Jorge-Mario Cabrera Valladares, Director of Communications and Public Relations of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles Jorge-Mario Cabrera Valladares, PR of CHIRLA, speaks to the crowd. (Aurelia Fierros)(CHIRLA), called for immigration supporters to send text messages with the word “Justice” to the code 69866, which will be directed to Congress.

“The vigilante-style enforcement practices of this rogue Riverside Border Patrol station, does not further any known immigration enforcement priorities, but does ravage communities, create distrust, and ultimately violates rights of everyone in the area,” said Chris Newman, Legal director of the National Day Laborer Organization network, in a written statement.

During the rally, immigrant rights advocates reiterated the nearly daily attacks on immigrant communities occurred in June, and called for a congressional investigation of the Riverside station. Later, the activists attempted to deliver a copy of a letter denouncing the practices of the office, directly to the BorderRaymond Herrera, Minuteman project spokesman. "Illegals you're breaking the law&go protest in Mexico," he said, while blocking the Border Patrol buildings main entrance, as activists attempted to deliver a letter of protest against recent raids. Tension started to escalate but as protesters decided to walk away, a young activist slid the letter -originally directed to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, under the front glass-door. The group reunited immediately after in the parking lot, continuing the rally, singing and playing some A protester holds a sign asking to "stop racial profiling." The document includes complaints for at least fifteen raids conducted by the Border Patrol in the last month, from San Bernardino to Riverside, Ontario, Corona and Rubidoux, including the irruption into a public bus and private residences, resulting in a number of deportations, in actions called “vigilante-style tactics” of the Riverside Border agents “anxious to meet their station’s quota arrests.”

When a police officer issues a citation to a person for passing a red light, do you protest that? When a police officer arrest a drunk driver, do you protest that? when a police officer does the job that he in good faith swore to do, do you point a finger at him and say " your wrong to make an arrest and take a family member away from his family"?
Then why do you want to protest and point a finger and attempt to say that Border Patrol Agents are wrong to perform the duties and enforce the immigration laws they also swore in good faith to uphold for the citizens of this country. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO KEEP A BORDER PATROL AGENT FROM DOING HIS DUTY TO THIS COUNTRY. It only makes you appear biased and unpatriotic in the eyes of all true patriots. If your not for this country and don't have faith in it's officers then go live in a country that you can beleive in, but if you stay here then look up what it means to be a patriot.

Illegal entry, trespassing, loitering, identity fraud, etc. laws have been around for a long time. What makes these illegal aliens feel they are exempt and above our laws?

All the logic in the world will not prevent our current dictator, Obama from importing his next wave of voters. It will be you and I who fund their new life and the new lives they bring into the world. It's dictatorship at its best. For those of you who voted for him and the takeover of our country, take a break on the 4th. You obviously do not believe in independence. I was born and live in California. One of the pasts most beautiful places in the world. Once one of the richest and most influential states in America. Come take a look at the slum it is becoming. We're broke. We've funded millions of illegals children. They've broke our hospitals, over run our neighborhoods, broke the social services banks. We have people on the streets that should have had support but ah, no more money left. These people are truly blood suckers. I relish the day they are shown the door, but oh yeah, we have a one party system and the demorats want the illegals here.

Thank you for covering the injustices occurring on a daily basis in the Inland Empire. We hope you continue to report on the unlawful practices of the Border Patrol. And to remind other people posting comments, everyone has rights under the US constitution. That's what makes our country great.
