CHIRLA to Napolitano: we expect immediate action on immigration reform

Angelica Salas, Executive Director of CHIRLA.Los Angeles – Leaders from faith, law enforcement, immigrant rights, business and labor will meet this Thursday with Secretary of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Janet Napolitano to discuss immigration reform. The following is a statement by Angelica Salas, Executive Director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA), a regional immigrant and human rights organization based in Los Angeles:

“As President Obama’s designee to oversee the much needed overhaul of our nation’s broken immigration system, we expect Secretary Napolitano to share with the community what progress has been made in terms of moving immigration reform forward. As the person in charge of pitching reform to legislators and to the general public we need her to exert active leadership not in six months, not when a bill is introduced, but immediately. The effort to move immigration reform will require all of our collective efforts to reach a just and humane solution to our nation’s archaic immigration laws.

The latest report of eleven more immigrant deaths while in detention centers throughout the United States and the lack of clarity about who is accountable to whom within ICE, concerns us deeply. We urge Secretary Napolitano to clarify how the human and civil rights of detainees are being ensured and protected and to describe how the enforcement goals of the department can be met by such inefficient and often secretive system. Secretary Napolitano should share with community leaders how she will guarantee that the department she oversees will in fact be accountable to the American public.

Secretary Napolitano has stated in the past that our country needs immigration reform to restore the rule of law and the integrity of our immigration system. Now that she is in the position to lead we ask that she demonstrates how she envisions getting the work done.”

Time for a comprehensive immigration reform is NOW! No more excuses and no more listening to disgraceful racists such as Senator Jeff Sessions(Alabama? anyone?)...it is disgrace that millions of ward-working immigrants have no rights in the "greatest country in the world". History (and God) will judge us harshly on this one!

Ivan, Almighty Gos has already judged us on this, since they did not pass the Immigration bill in 2007 , our economy has gone down, this was the same in the 1930s when they were aginst ALMIGHTY GODs CHILDREN. The best thing for our nation now is to pass Immigration Reform, and you will see how fast the economy picks up.
they will buy Homes, Cars, Appliances, open bank accounts and most importantly PAY TAXES, which they are doing today anyway.
Its the southern states who contribute NOTHING to our nation that OPPOSE IMMIGRATION REFORM> THE Senators from there have nothing to offer their constituents so they USA the Undocumented immigrants as a DEFLECTION.
    WERE ALL NOT FOLLIES.
ALMIGHTY GOD CREATED ALL HUMANS ADN LOVES ALL.

Messages such as the one from Aztlan Buster below are scary. It is really sad that America is still a very racist country, and the GOP has become the good'ole boy, Billy Bob party of the South. If they keep going at the same pace, the GOP will never win another election in our nation's history. The GOP is fighting demographics, and it is a losing war. And, make no mistake about it: a comprehensive immigration reform w/ path to citizenship for hardworking immigrants is a matter of when, not if! Hopefully as early sa this year! It must happen.

You can kiss off any immigration "reform" this year or next year. They don't have the votes and the public shut down the 2005 and 2007 efforts. The Feds have the system gamed exactly where they want it, with token enforcement and millions of illegals employed. The Dems string along the amnesty crowd like they've offered empty promises to blacks for 40 years. They still come back and vote for them, P.T. Barnum was right.

No more amnesties for illegal alien lawbreakers! People who support illegal aliens are disgraceful racists. Illegal aliens, whether they're working or not, should have NO rights here in the United States. History and God are on the side of those who are law abiding, and are not on the side of those who are law breaking.

We could accomplish the same thing and derive the same benefits by starting a guest worker program in which foreigners would apply for it from within their home countries. This will cause the economy to pick up and will bring in more tax money. There is nothing special about illegal aliens. Our country needs workers, but they don't have to be illegal alien workers. Why reward people who have violated our immigration laws? They are countless millions of foreigners around the world who would love to come here, and they're willing to come here legally. These are the people who should be rewarded.

Yes, there is a lot of racism in this country and most of it
comes from racist Hispanic organizations like National Council of La Raza (The Race). Another amnesty would be a disaster for this country and would mean the end of the United States as we know it. Does anybody really want this country to turn into another Mexico, which has been a failure of a country during its whole existence?

Sophia, sadly, I heard Rush Limbaugh this morning(I almost never listen to the guy)say that the U.S. Supreme Court has already given illegal aliens the same rights as Americans. I think he is right. Just look at what they are allowed to get away with. In fact, in many cases they have more rights than Americans. Often when they are caught driving without a license, registration, etc. the cops here in Southern California, just let them go. I'd like a deal like that as a taxpaying American. In fact, it is legal citizens that always have to PAY,one way or another. As fara as I'm concerned, the Supreme Courts decisions are illegal, due to the violation of existing immigration law. Why must Americans pay to educate and allow them to work here, when they are not even supposed to be here? Are these legitimate questions, or am I exaggerating?

Jimi, P.T. Barnum was indeed right, where the traitorous Democratic Party vis a vie their relations towards illegal aliens is concerned, when he said, "Every "CROWD", has a silver lining". Millions of people, definetly qualify as a "Crowd".

In 1986, President Reagan signed (thanks to traitor Ted Kennedy)bipartisan legislation billed as a "one-time only" amnesty for an estimated 1.5 million illegal aliens [actual number given amnesty: 4.3 million]. The Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) included promises of fines for employers of illegal workers and promises of stepped-up border security.

What happened? Washington delivered on the amnesty. An overwhelmed Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS)—under political pressure from Congress—sped through and approved 4.3 million applications, many fraudulent. What about the employer sanctions? Over time they were forgotten, they never gave enforcement a single thought. We were lied to then and we're being lied to now ( there have been 7 amnesties since 1986). We don't need another "guest worker program" either as there are over 20 such programs that exist today.

We The People refuse--absolutely refuse, to be sold on another path to citizenship for illegal alien.

No legalization, no amnesty and NO citizenship. Illegal aliens dishonor our country in every way. Why in heaven's name should we reward them with our most precious birthright? Our elected officials live in fantasy land on this one.

Obviously another amnesty (or "comprehensive reform" as the pro-amnesty zealots call it) would further UNDERMINE the rule of law, rather than restoring it as the incompetent Napolitano hysterically claims.

With unemployment at a 26-year high and getting worse, the LAST thing our elected officials should be doing is scheming up ways to legalize millions of illegal foreign workers!!

NO AMNESTY -- ENFORCE ALL IMMIGRATION LAWS !!

Furthermore, a Rasmussen Reports poll released just a few days ago shows that 70% voters believe border control is more important than legalizing (giving amnesty) to illegals.

If Obama wishes to respect the will of voters and protect vulnerable U.S. workers, he will oppose ALL "pathway" amnesty schemes and support REAL enforcement of our immigration laws -- rather than gutting 287(g) and weakening enforcement like Napolitano is doing.

DHS secretary, Janet Napolitano has a mandate to enforce all federal laws on immigration and national security. She has proven she is either incomptent, incapable, misguided or misinformed on how to accomplish these ends. Obama must either fire her or she must resign for the good of the nation.
