While most of us were satisfied to sit in front of the TV, passively waiting for the ball to drop, officially starting 2009, ESPN and Red Bull offered television viewers another option – a chance to witness two daredevils performing death defying stunts live from Las Vegas and telecast on ESPN to a worldwide audience
If you, like me, were among those doing something other than watching ESPN at midnight, here’s your belated opportunity to see what you missed.
When you witness these two stunts, performed by Trophy Truck driver Rhys Millen and Australian freestyle motocross rider Robbie Maddison, you’ll simply be left speechless.
These videos are courtesy ESPN and Red Bull via YouTube. Also, after you finish watching them, I’d be willing to bet that you, just like me, won’t be watching some silly crystal ball drop in Time Square this New Year’s Eve.
First - 36-year-old Rhys Millen attempting to backflip a truck at the Rio in Vegas - a trick he wanted to do the year before but couldn't because he broke numerous vertebre and damaged his truck on a practice jump.
Next -27-year-old Aussie freestyle motocross rider Robbie Maddison will jump his bike more than 120 feet high and land on the top of the 96-foot-high and 40-foot-deep replica Arc de Triomphe in front of Paris Las Vegas. Then, he’ll drop off the Arc and freefall 50 feet to a massive landing ramp below.
Unbelievable!
