'The Road,' based on Cormac McCarthy novel, stars Robert Duvall, Charlize Theron, Viggo Mortensen - A highly anticipated movie based on Cormac McCarthy's novel, The Road, will star Robert Duvall, Charlize Theron, and Viggo Mortensen. Joe Penhall wrote the screenplay; the movie is directed by John Hillcoat.

The  novel was an Oprah's Book Club pick, a national bestseller, and it also won a Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2007.

The Road is about a father and son journeying through a postapocalyptic America where they are "each the other's world entire."  With the country in total devastation, all this father and son have to sustain them are each other and the love each one bears for other.  Some readers have called the novel McCarthy's masterpiece.

Rating:  R for some violence, disturbing images and language

In his observations in the New York Times Book Review, prize-winning author William Kennedy said about the book:

"The Road is a dynamic tale, offered in the often exalted prose that is McCarthy's signature, but this time in restrained doses—short, vivid sentences, episodes only a few paragraphs or a few lines long…the most readable of his works, and consistently brilliant in its imagining of the posthumous condition of nature and civilization—"the frailty of everything revealed at last. Old and troubling issues resolved into nothingness and night."

The movie is now scheduled to open November 25.
