'Robin Hood,' Russell Crowe no match for 'Indiana Jones,' Harrison Ford on 'Letterman' (VIDEO) - Russell Crowe appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman Tuesday night to promote his new film, Robin Hood, inspired by folklore and the book by Howard Pyle.
During their conversation, David Letterman asked Mr. Crowe about his two sons. From there, the actor explained how one son is infatuated with the Indiana Jones movies, starring Harrison Ford. He even got to telling people that he wanted to be a paleontologist when he grew up, because the word sounded impressive.
Well, that's great, isn't it? Mr. Letterman asked.
Mr. Crowe then said that it would be great if his son were not also comparing his dad's performance as an actor to Harrison Ford's abilities.
"He's so certain that Harrison Ford is much better at the job than I am. He's probably right, but I just don't want to hear it," the actor joked. See the video clip of the conversation below.
Also, in their conversation about the movie, Mr. Crowe related that the scenes of Sherwood Forest were shot outside of London, many in lands owned by the Queen. Some parts of the forest have rarely been seen because of that and are especially lush. He could not see shooting Sherwood Forest somewhere in Eastern Europe, he said.
The castle under siege at the beginning of the movie is a large set, Mr. Crowe revealed. Director Ridley Scott prefers to work large elements of his movies in life-sized terms, he said, rather than depend on computer-generated imagery.
Despite his young son's current "critique" of his skills, the Academy Award-winning star doesn't have much to worry about in the acting department. The Australian remains one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood.
Robin Hood will be released in theaters on May 14, 2010.
