It's getting a lot of publicity these days, but just in case you were wondering--no, popular actor/musician Robert Pattinson's new film, Remember Me, is not adapted from a book you may know with the same title--any book.
Not Mary Higgins Clark's bestseller, Remember Me set on Cape Cod. Not the novel Remember Me written by Sharon Sala and published by Harlequin that is about a disappearing wife who reappears without remembering where she's been. Neither is it adapted from Christopher Pike's young adult novel, Remember Me the tagline for which is "She didn't understand that she was dead."
It's not based on Remember Me? (note question mark) by Sophie Kinsella, about a 28-year-old woman (coincidentally the age of Robert Pattinson's leading lady, Emilie de Ravin) who wakes up in a London hospital with perfect teeth, a toned body, and a Louis Vuitton bag--all of which she didn't have before. And it's not based on the Christian novel by Deborah Bedford, Remember Me, published by Faith Words.
No, Remember Me is the new title given to a rewrite of an original script called Memoirs by Will Fetters. Jenny Lumet (Rachel Getting Married) has worked on the rewrite.
(By the way--no, Memoirs was not based on Tennesse Williams's reminiscences with the same title.)
Though Robert Pattinson is known already for appearing in so many movie roles based on characters from popular and classic books--Twilight and The Twilight Saga: New Moon based on the book series by Stephenie Meyer; Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix from the novels by J. K. Rowling; The Haunted Airman based on the novel, The Haunting of Toby Jugg by Dennis Wheatley; Vanity Fair (Pattinson appears in the DVD) from the classic by William Makepeace Thackeray; and future projects such as Bel-Ami based on the novel by Guy de Maupassant--this time he is filming a work based on an original script, not an adaptation.

What is Remember Me about? Publicity released about the film to date describes the story as about a young couple whose budding relationship is threatened by family tragedies on both sides. Though a script titled Memoirs has been seen on the Internet, as with all originally scripted films, audiences will just have to wait and go to the theaters to know what the real story is for sure.
The wait won't be too terribly long, though (relatively speaking--for Pattinson fans, any wait is too long). The film is scheduled to open just before Valentine's Day on Februay 12, 2010.
Remember Me is currently filming in New York City where fans and paparrazi regularly gather at the set trying to get an advanced look.

Do any of the "Remember Me" novels mentioned above sound like a good read to you? What do you look forward to most in the upcoming film (if anything)?

I would like to read Mary Higgins Clark's "Remember Me" because she always writes a good, fast read. (I've read so many of her books, I might have read it already.) I like the premise of Sophie Kinsella's "Remember Me"--I would like to wake up like that every morning!
In the upcoming movie I am looking forward to seeing the real Rob Pattinson. I read an interview with Rob about this movie; he said that this Tyler character was very close to the way he is in real life...that after meeting with Jenny Lumet she was able to pick up on some of his (Rob's) personality traits and apply them to the character in the script. Sounds good to me!
i cant wait 2 c the movie. im sure hell b great in it.
can i buy the Memoirs by Will Fetters
i hope you can help
can write me an answer too this email account: b_h_1988@hotmail.com
Darn... I was hoping it was Christopher Pikes "Remember Me adaptation. I read that book when I was a teenager and found it a riveting read back then. I would have understood Rob Pattinson staring in that as even though it's not about vampires it has a similar dark theme and I think Twilight audiences would have identified with it. Too bad!!
Connie,
Thanks for all this great info! I just saw a screening last night and am working on my review (will go up with the wide release on Friday 3-12). I always do a little research with my reviews and was wondering if this was based on a book. Clearly, you're the source for such information.
I'm subscribing to your page for future review research!
Thanks!
I just found the novel "Remember me..." by Melvyn Bragg, and I kinda hoped it was the book the movie's based on - too bad. But thanks for the info anyway.
Thanks for the info. I work @ a bookstore which is next to a theatre and people are always coming over looking to see if certain movies have been adapted from books. Remember Me has certainly been one of them.
Danggit, i've been looking every where to see if the movie was made from a book, what a wast of time, but the movie was really good i was soooo shocked at the end that i cried :(
