Director, Martin Scorsese will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award at next year's Golden Globes ceremony, according to a notice in Variety today. The DeMille Award is given to honor his "outstanding contribution to the entertainment field."
The Golden Globes is an award ceremony sponsored each year by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) to honor entertainment industry professionals in the areas of movies and television. The Cecil B. DeMille Award is often thought of as the "lifetime achievement" award of the night honoring the career of a major director, actor, or other entertainment industry professional.
Mr. Scorsese has won two previous Golden Globes as Best Director for his movies The Departed and Gangs of New York. He has been nominated 5 other times, 4 as director of Goodfellas, Casino, The Age of Innocence, and Raging Bull and once as screenwriter for Raging Bull. Casino was adapted from Casino: Love and Honor in Las Vegas by Nicholas Pileggi; The Age of Innocence from a novel by Edith Wharton; and Raging Bull was adapted from boxer Jake LaMotta's autobiography.
The Golden Globes will be televised live on NBC on January 17, 2010.
