'Lovely Bones,' Peter Jackson's latest movie, premieres as Royal Film Performance - His Royal Highness Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, greeted the stars of Peter Jackson's new film, Lovely Bones, at the Royal Film Performance Tuesday which also marked the world premiere of the movie. The Lovely Bones is based on the novel of the same name by Alice Sebold. The event took place at London's Leicester Square.
The Royal Film Performance distinction means that the movie is shown at a charity gala at Leicester Square to an audience that includes members of the British Royal family. Money raised at the gala goes to the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund (CTBF).
The film stars Academy Award nominee Mark Wahlberg (The Departed), Academy Award winner Rachel Weisz (The Constant Gardener), Academy Award winner Susan Sarandon (Dead Man Walking), Stanley Tucci (Julie & Julia), Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos) and Academy Award nominee Saoirse Ronan (Atonement). Directed by Peter Jackson (The Lord of The Rings trilogy) from a screenplay adapted by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens and Peter Jackson, the story revolves around a girl who has died and how she watches over her family from heaven. Though she seeks vengeance for her death, she must decide between seeing justice done versus allowing her family to heal from her loss.
The movie opens in limited release on December 11 and expands to more theaters on Christmas Day. It is planned to go into nationwide release on January 15, 2010.
