'Diary of Anne Frank' to air on PBS - A new film adaptation of the historic and bestselling book, The Diary of Anne Frank, will air on PBS Sunday, April 11, 2010. The movie marks the latest adaptation of the young writer's story.
Adapted by Deborah Moggach and directed by Jon Jones, the movie stars Ellie Kendrick as Anne; Felicity Jones as Margot Frank; Tamsin Greig as Edith Frank; and Iain Glen as her father, Otto Frank.
The book was an actual diary kept by a teenaged girl while she and her family were in hiding from the Nazis in the Netherlands during World War II.
Those who have studied the diary, such as author Francine Prose in her book, Anne Frank: The Book, The Life, The Afterlife, see a narrative that was carefully constructed and rewritten by a skillful writer who was consciously doing more than jotting down events and personal longings.
Screenwriter, Deborah Moggach will be a guest on the Barnes and Noble.com Classics Book Club the week of April 12-16, 2010 where she will be available online through a threaded discussion board to answer questions about the film from readers and viewers. Membership in the BN.com book clubs is free, though registration is required.
The film is also available on DVD.
PBS will broadcast The Diary of Anne Frank starting at 9:00 p.m. ET in most markets. Check out your local listings to be sure.
