It looks like the Nook, Barnes and Noble’s recently announced ereader that will be available for sale beginning on November 30, is a hit. According to Barnes and Noble’s CEO Steve Riggio, the Nook has become the bookstore chain’s fastest selling single item since it was made available for preorder on the company’s website on October 20. The company has not revealed how many units have been preordered, but BN.com president William Lynch has told analysts that the company expects to receive a “big chunk” of the estimated 900,000 ereaders that are expected to be sold over the holidays this year.

Although Riggio has stated that it is Barnes and Noble’s goal to have enough Nooks in stock to meet demand this holiday season, it is unclear which of its 777 stores will have the device in time for the December holidays. According to an unnamed representative of the company, Barnes and Noble expects to have the Nook available at most of its retail stores by the peak holiday season and plans to have the device available at all of its stores by early 2010. Whether or not the Nook will make its way to Virginia Beach Barnes and Noble stores in time for the holiday shopping season remains to be seen.

Not a surprise. Good looking device, big store...and I haven't been inside their physical stores as of late but imagine they are actively promoting.

I'm not surprised either. Barnes and Noble is a major chain, after all. I haven't been to a Barnes and Noble store since before the Nook announcement, but I'll be going today. It'll be interesting to see how heavily the Nook is being promoted in store.
