In Carrie Vaughn’s second novel in the Kitty Norville series, Kitty Goes to Washington, our intrepid radio talk show host is summoned to Washington to speak before a senate oversight committee. The subject? Werewolves, vampires, and Dr. Paul Flemming’s the Center for the Study of Paranatural Biology, and since newspaper fame comes with it, Kitty is one unhappy werewolf. But neither can she ignore the summons.

As always, Kitty finds herself the talk of the town, hosted by none other than D.C.’s master vampire, whose minions are none too happy with Kitty’s arrival. The feeling is mutual, and slipping away, she meets a pocket of other shapeshifters, who take her in, one—a Brazillian-born were-leopard—sweeps her off her feet. She’s even courted by the unofficial town pack.

But Senator Duke, the self styled crusader on the committee has her in his sights. And of course, the ever-annoying Unchartered World reporter wants to see her out herself in the camera eye.

Between the senator, the shifty head of the Center for the Study of Paranatural Biology, the vampire’s minions, and the ever-lurking Reverend Smith, she’s beginning to wonder how in the world is she going to survive D.C. with all her fur. And that’s before she learns the nature of the cages within Dr. Flemming’s laboratory. So, can she juggle all this, and run her weekly radio show on schedule, or will the Senate hearings make life a living hell for Kitty—permanently? Of course, you’ll have to read the book to find out.

I can truly say, it doesn’t disappoint. Kitty’s last romp was well written, and I have to say, the vision she shows of the senate committee seemed mighty well-researched. I felt like I was sitting right there with Kitty the whole way, and that was well worth the read in itself, if nothing else. Because I really enjoyed this one, and look forward to more—and indeed, her next book is just about to be released, so there is more fun to come.

I had a little trouble finding my copy of Kitty Goes to Washington, at the time I was seeking it out; so I’m very happy the fine folks at Grand Central Publishing were able to provide me this reading copy. However, you can probably get Barnes and Noble or Borders to order you one; or try Amazon; whatever you do, check out Kitty Goes to Washington; I’m sure you will be pleasantly surprised.
