Last year U.S. News and World Report selected librarianship as one of the best careers in 2008. Shortly after that McSweeney's posted "Ten Reasons to be a librarian."
In the last decade or so, mainstream media has dubbed librarians as "hip" and "cool" and the stereotype of the dowdy-cat-sweater-and-glasses librarian has started to fade. Now hipster librarians are totally rocking cat sweaters and glasses.
You might be a librarian if:
You compulsively reshelve items and straighten shelves when browsing at Barnes and Noble
You alphabetize your spice rack (and everything else)
You own more cardigans than shoes
You own cats named "Ernest, "Kerouac," or "Flannery"
You have a secret desire to be on a bookcart drill team
You know the Dewey Decimal System by heart
Nancy Pearl is your idol and you own her action figure
You go on vacation and visit other libraries
You don't have a Netflix account and borrow all of your music and movies from the library instead
Your home library has just as many books as a small public library
You were totally blogging and social networking before 2003
You read banned books
You can kick everyone's butt at Scrabble

Our house has a two cat minimum, and I have to admit the bookcart drill team actually sounds like fun. They would need custom paint jobs.
not sure if i am a librarian...but i sure do LOVE books. I was in a elementary school's library today thinking I could create bookshelfs like the ones in the library! As a child I would put my books in ABC order. I mostly collect children's books...so i guess if I liked cats they would be seuss, rowlings, or blume!
