Bargain hunters and book lovers rejoice: Horizon Books on 15th Avenue in Capitol Hill is having a big sale. Everything (and I mean everything) is 50% off. Horizon Books is one of my favorite bookstores in the entire city because they always have what I need (I don't just want books, I need them) and I was delighted (but wary) when I saw the signs outside the cottage proclaiming the sale. It is evident by the empty shelves that people are taking advantage of the sale. I walked out with brand new copies of Love Monkey by Kyle Smith and a seafood cookbook and didn't even spend eight bucks.
When I inquired about the sale the response I got was, "We might have to move, but we don't know." I don't know if it's code for for "our lease is up and we're getting kicked out but moving across town" or "we're going to have to close," but I sincerely hope it isn't the latter. But if it is, now just might be the time to stock up on titles for holiday gifts and supplement your home library.
Horizon Books is located at 425 15th Ave. E., Capitol Hill, Seattle 98112 (206) 329-3586

I'm glad to hear the sale is working. I do hope they don't end up closing. We just lost the Horizon on Roosevelt and the Couth Buzzard on Greenwood... Half Price is good for what it is, and we've still got Magus (I can't say I'm the biggest fan of Twice Sold Tales anymore)... I would really rather not lose Horizon.
Unfortunately, a quick look on the King County property-info Web site makes it look like they don't own the building, and that it's one of those situations in which the land is worth far more than the "improvements." Nuts. I do hope they find another location if they have to move.
The last day for Horizon on 15th Ave is the Ides of March: 3/15/09.
