I recently learned of a website that I've been enjoying for its frank (and mostly enthusiastic) reader reviews: www.LitChicks.com. The Literate Chicks (Seattle-based Suzanne and Phoenix-based Kim) and their rotating group of guest reviewers assign a flip-flop rating of 1 through 5 for books they've read, then write up a review. My favorite feature is that they include a Best Line for every book; it's made me start marking my favorite passages in my reading journal as I read.
The Literate Chicks' reviews are informative, accessible,and fun to read. You can start with reviewers' Top 10 books to get an idea of whose taste is similar to yours. Then click on the Reviews flip flop to see the alphabetical list of titles. Browse away! I particularly enjoy comparing different reviewers' takes on the same book.
