Stephen King's newest novel Under the Dome could be getting a cinematic treatment for the small screen. Variety reports that King has teamed up with Steven Spielberg to create an "event series" for DreamWorks TV.
Under the Dome was released earlier this month to wide praise from both King fans and critics alike, many comparing it to his widely beloved classic novel, The Stand.
Under the Dome tells the story of what happens after a "dome" or forcefield unexpectedly and mysteriously descends upon the town of Chester's Mill, Maine. In the ensuing chaos, the townspeople struggle to understand what has happened and why -- all while warring factions fight for control inside the dome.
According to Variety, DreamWorks is meeting with writers and will choose one before shopping the series to TV networks.
The book certainly has the feel of a major motion picture event, anyway, and with its length would be well-suited for a TV mini series. (The book clocks in at 1,088 pages). Here is the official book trailer, which gives you a sense of how the story might translate to the small screen:

I'm very excited for this. I'm hoping for it to be on ABC; I don't have HBO. :/
