A look back on the movie adaptation of "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" as filming nears completion

Filming of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” – the movie adaptation of the third book in Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling series – is nearly complete.

Director David Slade, along with cast and crew, have been busy in the Vancouver, B.C. area since late August – bringing the third movie in the franchise to life. Now, filming is nearing an end. The set version of Bella’s house has already been taken down, and Slade posted earlier this week on his Twitter account that there is just about a week left of principal photography. By now, that means filming is very nearly finished.

Slade tweeted that some of the last days of filming would include scenes at the “Cullen house” and the final shots of the battle, writing "battles ensue on mountain tops."

Other recent filming has included more tent scenes, and (Spoiler Alert!) the deaths of Riley and Victoria. In some of the final scenes to be filmed, Bella also takes drastic measures, remembering the legend of the “Third Wife” and cuts herself in an attempt to distract Riley & Victoria from hurting Edward. Fans of the book know, it’s not a brilliant move – but we also know it works out okay in the end.

Here’s a look back at some of the other key moments that we’ve seen brought to life on the set of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” over the last several weeks:

  • Bella and Edward visit Chief Charlie Swan at the Forks Police Station to discuss possibly traveling to Florida
  • Leah’s werewolf transformation
  • Werewolf & vampire fight training and fight scenes
  • Quileute Bonfire, when Bella learns some of the old stories of Jacob’s tribe
  • According to director David Slade’s Twitter account, there were also scenes about “vampires talking” and “vampires kissing”
  • Jacob carrying Bella through the wilderness
  • The love triangle between Bella, Edward and Jacob
  • Bella & Jacob’s kiss
  • Tent & mountain scenes with Bella, Edward and Jacob
  • Specifically, Chapter 22 “Fire & Ice” is adapted and filmed – when Jacob warms Bella in her sleeping bag
  • The Cullens teach the wolves how to fight newborn vampires
  • Newborn vampires emerge from the water
  • Carlisle attends to Jacob’s injuries
  • Jacob and Edward confront each other in the Forks High School parking lot
  • Bad vampire Riley sneaks into Bella’s house
  • Bella & Jacob talk at her house
  • Romantic scenes between Bella & Edward in her bedroom
  • Bella and human friend Angela have girl-talk
  • Bella visits her mother in Florida
  • Bella & her human classmates graduate from Forks High School
  • Bella and Edward discuss marriage in the meadow
  • Bella punches Jacob after he forcibly kisses her
  • Scenes with Riley and nomad Victoria (now portrayed by Bryce Dallas Howard)
  • Flashbacks to Jasper’s past
  • Flashbacks to Rosalie’s past
  • Victoria hunts down a human Riley & turns him into a vampire

Meanwhile, Summit Entertainment is ramping up promotions for both “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” – and the second movie in the franchise, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” which hits U.S. theaters on November 20th. On the official Twilight Twitter account, Summit is asking for 200,000 followers – after which time they will reveal the title treatment for “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” People Magazine also recently revealed the first photo from the movie, which depicts characters Bella and Edward together in a meadow.

Summit is also heavily promoting "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" this week -- both here in the U.S. and abroad at the Rome Film Festival. Lots of new footage has been released this week -- including two new scenes, and the first TV spot. Fans are also counting down the days to the movie's release -- less than a month away now. Education-based fansite Novel Novice Twilight has launched 30 Days of New Moon to celebrate the final days leading to the movie's theatrical debut.

Merchandise related to “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” is also selling already like hotcakes. That includes the soundtrack, the movie companion book, clothing, jewelry and more.

Meanwhile, there is still no official word on when or where a fourth movie in the franchise would begin filming. Summit has said it plans to make a movie version of the fourth and final book in Meyer’s series, Breaking Dawn. But as of this time, no official plans have been announced for production – though there have been rumors that filming could return to Oregon.

The first movie, “Twilight,” was filmed in and around the Portland area in 2008.
