Q & A with a Twilight blogger: Letters to Twilight

Letters to Twilight is not your average Twilight fan-site. For starters, the premise of the blog is unique -- the two blog writers, who go by the names "The Moon is Down" and "Unintended Choice," often pen letters directed at the characters and stars of the Twilight franchise themselves (hence the blog name, "Letters to Twilight"). Their blog posts are a combination of outrageous stories, music videos, and pictures. Whether they are addressing Robert Pattinson's penchant for button-fly jeans or their admiration of Alice and Jasper's relationship, Moon and UC are sure to gain a chuckle or two from their readers, as well as a guaranteed repeat visit.

Q. Because it needs to be asked: Team Edward or Team Jacob?

Moon: Team Buttcrack Santa --long live the best non-canon, most useless character ever created.

UC: Duh, my first choice, as always, but if I have to choose between the two -- Edward, I guess. He's kinda cute.

Moon: But in my heart of hearts I’ll always be Team Edward.

UC: Yes -- he's the reason for the stress in my life and lack of time to do anything because I waste it blogging.

Q. OK, now that that's out of the way, on the rest of the questions. What is your favorite moment(s) in the Twilight series?

Moon: Omg... how to even choose...

UC: When Edward hitches Bella’s leg over his hip. And then the tent scene for me in Eclipse -- hands down. I always talk about it.

Moon: I love the "months" in New Moon cause it feels like a death -- like she lost him and it was empty after that. It’s Stephenie Meyer’s point of true genius. Oh -- my other favorite moment is in Twilight -- the exchange between Jasper & Bella in the garage. The ‘You’re worth it’ moment.

Q. What is your favorite book in the Twilight Saga and why?

UC: Ugh. That's like choosing between children or my cats. Well, first read it was a tie between Breaking Dawn & Twilight with Eclipse coming in at a close 2nd.

Moon: Breaking Dawn is obviously the red-headed step-child for me.

UC: 2nd time around with the books? Definitely Eclipse.

Moon: Eclipse was my fav the first time around.

UC: I still love Twilight so bad... And New Moon gives everything a run for its money now that I can appreciate it. So moral of the story is... I don't know. All of the above? Midnight Sun?

Moon: Yeah, upon my 2nd and 3rd re-reading, New Moon rivals them all. Eclipse, Midnight Sun/New Moon, and then Twilight, then Breaking Dawn. I like to make lists.

UC: You're like Santa.

Moon: Yes. Buttcrack Santa, that is.

Q. If you could ask any question of Stephenie Meyer, what would it be?

Moon: Do you really want to DO Rob?

UC: I'd ask her how she stood to be around Rob without ravishing him. No, I'd probably ask her what the craziest thing she's done or bought since she got money. I don’t think I have any questions about her writing.

Moon: I’d probably ask her to give me the last 7 months of my life back but then give it back to her cause I’ve enjoyed it more than I can explain.

UC: Seriously... she really has ruined us hasn’t she? I used to be so normal...

Moon: I used to go out every night and talk about normal stuff. Now everything I can relate to Twilight in some way (in my head of course). I’d never say most of those things out loud.

UC: I've become a mute because I can't talk about anything out loud, so I just no longer speak, in public, only online in blogs or in instant messaging conversations with you.

Moon: I don’t think I'd ask her much. I’d just have a lot to thank her for and tell her. Thank her for all the friends I’ve met, thank her for strengthening relationships I already had and thank her for allowing us, even in a small way, to be part of such a big phenomenon.

Q. Of all of the vampire abilities, which would you like to possess and why?

UC: Sexual stamina. Seriously... sex that never ends? You never get tired? It never gets boring? It’s always awesome? I’ll take that.

Moon: I’d like the dazzling, sparkly skin that never blemishes, the ability to run in stilettos and leap middle class suburban houses in a single bound.

Q. Name three words that describe you.

Moon: I’ll describe UC (I have 3 sets, I can’t decide what to use) "makes random funny" or "Rob's true love" or “hilarious, persistent, cute.”

UC: Oops. I didn’t do it the same way. For Moon I chose, “knowledgeable, no drama, loyal." Knowledgeable because she knows everything -- music, film, pop culture- she knows it. Which is good. Cus I am not good at that and often say things wrong and think that Morrisey was in Van Morrison (true story- my husband was NOT pleased).

Moon: For UC -- "makes random funny" – She can turn ANYTHING into a blog post and I admire that deeply and wish I had that talent. I wish I could include a 4th word because that would be driven. She GETS IT DONE!

Q. What inspired you to create your own Twilight site?

Moon: We both had read the books and talked to each other about it incessantly even watching that hour-long Vanity Fair photoshoot video multiple times and "breaking it down." Then we figured “hey we're making each other laugh we should write this stuff down” and a blog was born. And we haven’t stopped “breaking it down,” and every time we do it’s referred to as “breaking it down vanity-fair style” because of the video that started it all! We wanted to talk about Twilight from a different point of view. We are older, hip girls with real lives who just happen to like Twilight, and we wanted to let other people out there know "That's Normal."

UC: Right. And I love how that phrase “That’s Normal” has become such a big thing on our blog(s). Especially when we use it to describe crazy fan things that aren’t really that normal! (AKA tattooing Rob’s autograph on your body.)

Q. What advice do you have for those who want to create their own Twilight site/blog?

Moon: DON’T… but if you really must, we insist that you:

UC: Have a unique, creative idea that isn’t' already being done cause there are a ton of blogs out there. The internet is over-saturated. And you’re not going to get a ton of readers unless you have a unique spin. Those normal “news-type” blogs are being done ALL over the place and they are huge and really hard to compete with. Twicrackaddict and NewMoonMovie are our two faves that do the news blog REALLY well!

Moon: Be unique, be interesting, be funny, be YOU, and be ready to sacrifice your life for the cause. Know that there’s gonna be some ups and down and drama and politics, but remember why you loved it in the first place: Jacob’s abs.

Q. What are the pros and cons of being a Twilight fan over the age of 13?

Moon: You're old enough and have the moola to organize trips to Forks, trips to events, get into 21-and-over concerts with 100 Monkeys, Sam Bradley and Bobby Long. You have a passport and can fly to London to stalk the Pattinsons.

UC: You’re taken seriously as writers/bloggers by major media outlets. You don’t need mommy to go with you to see other movies from the stars (AKA Little Ashes).
Moon: You actually have a chance of sharing a cocktail with a member of the cast. If Robert Pattinson tries to bum a cigarette from you, it’s not illegal

UC: And a major pro: If Rob happens to fall for you and wants to "take things to the next level," that is also not illegal.

Moon:  Cons: Explaining to very adult people that you like a young adult novel.

UC: Twilight is advertised to kids and only kids -- NOT to us.

Moon: Explaining to your real life friends that you have BFF's online named lapushbaby, coco4robsten, roblover4ever, aliceseemyfuture. And even though you want to, buying a Twilight-themed trapper keeper is NOT plausible (even for keeping your take-out menus organized).

Q. Do you feel that the advertising campaign for the Twilight books and films adequately represents the older fan-base? Why or why not?

Moon: NO! Body glitter? Jewelry boxes?

UC: Trapper keepers!? Lame t-shirts? No way.

Moon: Jasper’s face across your adult boobs in a shirt that looks like something from a comic book?

UC: Besides the Bella jacket on modcloth.com & some fan-made jewelry, I cannot tell you that there's one thing merch-wise that appeals to anyone older than 13. And I mean that -- I have a 15 yr old sister and she'd never be caught DEAD in any of that stuff, and she's a big fan.

Moon: I own the action figure but that’s because I use it for the blog to MAKE FUN of it all.

UC: And I sent you an Edward pillowcase for Christmas, but I know you actually love that, but you don't have to admit it for this interview.
Moon: I make out with it at night because I’m a lonely Twi-hard in my Pattinson PJ pants.
UC: That’s normal.

Stay tuned for next Monday's Q & A with another Twilight blogger over the age of 20. Thank you to all the readers who sent in recommendations for other Twilight bloggers. I have enough suggestions at the moment so please do not send any more.

It turned out to be funnier than I could have ever imagined. So how I have a feeling that UC and Moon had a bet beforehand on how often they could work BCS (and no not the Bowl Championship Series) into the answers.

I read them DAILY! LOVE them. They totally get it. They make fun of the "crazies", they make fun of themselves, they make fun of the books and movies - THEY GET IT.

I read their conversations, and it sounds just like the ones I have with my friends. UC and Moon are the BEST!

UC & Moon write intelligent, witty, often side-splittingly funny or risque commentary---they're plugged into the real world as seen through Rob's Twilight eyes---I check them out daily & love it---<3

Hooked on LTR with Moon and UC.
This blog and its readers are not anything like your typical "Twilight/Robb" rabid fan girls site. This group has a cool vibe of friendship and tongue and cheeky thing on all things Rob.
I sincerly hope "Himself/Robb" reads it, I think one of his buddies ran across it, and sent a funny/positive comment to Moon and UC.

I remember when I first heard of LetterstoTwilight, I didn't even want to check it out, because I thought it would be stupid actual letters from 13year olds writing to characters that are fictional. Then one day I decided to check it out, and it is on the the funniest things I have ever read. UC & Moon truly do a fantastic job at pointing fun at things Twilight, while being fans. I think it's amazing that they write a blog post every day and have interesting, witty things to say.
