Q & A with a Twilight blogger: Ang (Amcas)

Ang (Amcas) is the writer of the blog Why Not? Twilight, RPattz, and Me, a popular blog with Twilight fans in their 20's-30's. Her tongue-in-cheek writing style and liberal application of "picspam," posts containing little more than pictures, are very popular with her readers, especially since the star of 99.9% of her picsam is Robert Pattinson.

Q. Because it needs to be asked: Team Edward or Team Jacob?
A. Team Edward. Who's Jacob? Oh, the wolf-boy! I am "irrevocably" in love with Edward's character, just like Bella.

Q. OK, now that that's out of the way, on the rest of the questions. What is your favorite moment(s) in the Twilight series?
A. That's hard. Honestly, I was blown away by the pain Bella experiences in New Moon. It hit me in the gut when all you see for pages are the names of the months...I cried. I like when things get me emotionally. Other moment from the books I would consider my favorites are those when Edward and Jake verbally "squabble". The whole "blood-sucker" and "dog" moments make me smile a bit. Who wouldn't want to guys fighting over you?

Q. What is your favorite book in the Twilight Saga and why?

A. Eclipse. I love that Bella and Edward are solid at this point. There isn't any question they will be together but there is still the triangle with Jacob looming in the back as a complication. I also love that they are making plans, even if they don't quite work out. I grew to like Jacob during this book, his sad story drew me in since I could really relate to his predicament.

Q. If you could ask any question of Stephenie Meyer, what would it be?
A. I would beg her to finish Midnight Sun! I suppose I wonder what she would change in the series, if anything? I always wish I had taken different directions after the fact, maybe she does too?

Q. Of all of the vampire abilities, which would you like to possess and why?
A. Alice's ability seems the most useful ability, even if flawed. Jasper's ability is cool but I would be too evil and make people feel emotions at awkward times. I would not want to hear other peoples thoughts, and some of the other vamps in Breaking Dawn have such odd abilities that I don't think I would want those either. Alice wins!

Q. Name three words that describe you.
A. Humorous, friendly, and sensitive.

Q. What inspired you to create your own Twilight site?
A. Boredom. Alcoholism. Lost a bet. No, actually I wanted to make some connections to adults out there who also loved Twilight and Robert Pattinson. There is no one in my real-life circle who is quite as enthusiastic about the books or Mr. Pattinson, for that matter. When you really like and enjoy something you want to share it and talk about it. That's why people have fantasy leagues, isn't it?  I was roaming around the web and fell across a few Twi-blogs and thought, "these ladies are like me!" It inspired me to branch out and make those connections. It has been a fun little hobby and I feel I have met a nice circle of people I can check in and chat with when the mood strikes or the newest spoiler or news hits.

Q. What advice do you have for those who want to create their own Twilight site/blog?
A. Have fun! Don't be afraid to make a fool of yourself in the name of Twilight! Humor is essential. Be creative and put your own personality into your blog. It is is essentially a look into your mind...which can be scary. In my case, very scary. There really are no pre-requisites, other than have enough time to dedicate to it because once you start blogging it can be very addictive. Even then, you will spend more time on other people's blogs than your own.

Q. What are the pros and cons of being a Twilight fan over the age of 13?
A. Pros? You will collect more images off the web of the cast, film, and related stuff than you will ever know what to do with. Wait, that's a con. The pros are the friendships that can be made, the exposure to some really funny and intelligent people's thoughts, a sense of camaraderie with other's of your same age group over something that truly had the power to inspire and pull you all together. Cons, blogging in the Twi-world is a time sucker. You have to discipline yourself in a way, to get off the blogs and go forth and prosper in your real-life. Another con can be coming up with new topics or angles, it can be tough to top your last post.

Q. Do you feel that the advertising campaign for the Twilight books and films adequately represents the older fan-base? Why or why not?
A. I think the advertising in general spans all age groups. I don't feel excluded in any way from the way the books or subsequent movies are being marketed now. Initially, I believe that the powers that be directed it towards a teenage fan base. I think they understand now that the Twi-world is more encompassing than that. Teenagers don't have $250 million dollars, their parents and people like me do. Hee Hee. I think the merchandise is marketed to young adults almost exclusively, and that is okay, it's hard to be 29 and wear an Edward Cullen t-shirt, anyway. You do that stuff at home...just kidding.
