As part of the Mizel Arts & Culture Center's 2009 JAAMM (Jewish Arts, Authors, Movies & Music) Festival, Kathy Neustadt Hankin and the NSK Neustadt Prize for Children's Literature are sponsoring an evening with Ariel Sabar, author of "My Father's Paradise," published in 2008. The event will be held at the Robert E. Loup Jewish Community Center on November 11th at 7pm. While this is the capstone event, other book discussion events will be posted over the next few months.
Winner of the 2008 National Book Critics Circle Award for Autobiography, "My Father's Paradise: A Son's Search for his Jewish Past in Kurdish Iraq," brilliantly combines a linguist's love for language, the upheaval of relocation and a family's love for one another with longing to be at peace with the past. Deeply moving, this true story is written with a compelling voice generally only found in fiction.
Guaranteed to be a popular book club selection and local bestseller, procuring your copy before the November event would be wise.
