Stephanie Meyer, author of the bestselling Twilight books, has announced that she will not complete the fifth and final installment of the series after an incomplete draft of the novel leaked out on the internet.
According to Stephanie Meyer's website, a partial draft of the book, Midnight Sun, was "illegally posted on the internet and has since been virally distributed" without the consent of Meyer or her publisher.
Meyer told her fans that she did not want "readers to experience Midnight Sun before it was completed, edited, and published," and that, because of the leak, she feels "too sad about what has happened to continue working on Midnight Sun, and so it is on hold indefinitely." She later told MTV that, "for all intents and purposes, Breaking Dawn is the last book."
Meyer isn't the only one who is sad. Fans everywhere have been venting their frustration at the premature end of the saga on blogs and websites, some even calling for campaigns to "call, email, and stalk" Meyer until she agrees to do right by her devoted Twilight lovers and finish the series.
Meyer claims she knows how the manuscript got out of the bag: "I have a good idea of how the leak happened," she wrote. "...there were very few copies of Midnight Sun that left my possession and each was unique. Due to little changes I made to the manuscript at different times, I can tell when each left my possession and to whom it was given."
For lovers of the series, even seeing that individual fall prey to vampires wouldn't be enough; they are the real victims in this debacle.

I can't believe this! I was so looking forward to it! I read it on her website. She has it legally posted there. All 12 chapters were very VERY good!

It is very sad I love this series and think Stephanie is amazing, except that now she is acting without thinking about the consequences. I understand that Stephanie is upset and all, but she is only hurting herself by not finishing it. There are probably millions of fans who are upset by this, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of these fans take it so far as to not see the movie. This could damage all that she and the entire movie has worked for. She also as written other books, but by enraging her fan base, I doubt her other books will be bought.
Come on Stephanie, we know it's not fair, but life isn't always fair. Please, finish this book.
You know, I never thought of the possibility of Twilight fans organizing some sort of boycott of the upcoming movie. From the level of sheer outrage I've read in fan posts on blogs and websites, I wouldn't be at all surprised. Hopefully Stephanie Meyer didn't realize the furor all of this would cause and will decide that it really is a better idea to finish Midnight Sun and not punish her fans for one person's very ill-advised action.
I really do side with the readers on this one, maybe only because I'm a reader and not an author, I don't know. I understand how upset Ms.Meyer must be but the portions of the text that I've seen--in my opinion--wouldn't damage any of the fan's enjoyment of the final book.
Imagine if this had happened with the final Harry Potter book! There would probably have been riots in the streets!
Midnight Sun is Steph;s- best work to date and it is not even complete. I pray she will reconsider and share Edwards voice with us again. PLEASE...don't let the bad guys win!!!
I can understand that Stephanie is upset that Midnight Sun was released in a draft form.. that she hadn't finished working on it. After reading the pages that were leaked I have to say that Midnight Sun was shaping up to be my favourite of the Twilight Series. It was so nice to 'hear' Edward's 'voice' in my head again.. I'd missed him!
I'm prepared to beg Stephanie to finish Midnight Sun.. why should the fans suffer because of the stupidity of one person that leaked it to the internet?
Please Stephanie finish Midnight Sun and make it sooner rather than later.. your fan's are waiting, please don't let us down...

I was going to buy the first book and start reading today since I have seen so many on the bus and heard great reviews, but this makes me not want to read them at all. It seems like she is pouting and while I understand, she should be loyal to her readers and finish the book, maybe come up with new material. I think that is what a real writer would do. Do you think they are still worth reading?

Yes, they definitely are still worth reading. Not only do I believe in my heart that Stephenie Meyer will (eventually)complete the series, I am a big believer in reading books that have become part of American culture and thought, and the Twilight books have certainly done that. Admittedly, I don't like them as much as the Harry Potter series, the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, or the Ender books by Orson Scott Card; however, they have made their mark on our culture and I am a huge proponent of everyone reading and commenting on their generation's popular books--whether they like them or not!--simply because each person's informed opinion adds to the life and growth of books. Can you tell I'm a total book fiend?!
I can't believe this. I am hyperventalating from shock. No matter how many times I read or hear about this it still gets to me. I am stalker obsessed with the series. As an eighteen year old, I have influenced everyone I know with this book, my room is a shrine to it, and in all aspects it is all reality to me. I want her to finish the book. I hold out the hope that she is saying all of this just to be able to finish it in secret to be released with a bang. The series needs Midnight Sun, and I want to read more than just the first twelve chapters.

I have to admit, some of us did read it, (I did when she posted it)but it left us on a clif hanger!I got so desperate I wrote my own 150 page version to where she left off. Okay, so Stephenie was PO'd when she found out about the leak. I understand. But I also think that it was totally unfair of her to not finish the book. Seriously, let the dude who leaked it go to jail and pay heavy fines and write the rest of the story. I, for one, and dieing to find out what happens next and will gladly buy the book if it ever comes out.

I dont think that the leak is as bad as stephanie is making it! I think it just shows how much her readers are willing to do to read her books!She should be flattered! I for one am obbsessed. I have everything there is twilight.
It is not fair to stop writing...Even at Midnight Sun! If Stephanie is being greedy...she will not continue writing... if she actually cares and WANTS to make more money.... WRITE!
I think she was entitled to any fit she pleased. But, where is the justice in scrapping Midnight Sun? Someone decided to leak MS and we fans get the punishment for it? Knowing MS may never be completed is toruture for any reader who has actually followed this series. I for one was hoping for Edwards perspective through all four books. Maybe someday Ms. Meyer will get past this and rise above!

i think that stephanie should do whatever she wants because it's her book to begin with. if she doesnt want to write she doesnt have to.
OMG !!!! Who ever did that is an IDIOT i couldnt wait for it to come out :( but even trhough thqat did happen she could have kept writing it just left it off for a while
I heard that the book is still on, but she's supposuvly gonna wait 2 years until all the hype and talk is over.but everybody is still gonna be wondering.
Ok, well, first off, I think a lot of you are being unfair to Stephanie Meyer. When you put as much devotion into characters as she has, they are almost a part of you. In a way, her privacy was violated, and when a violation such as that occurs, it is easy to lose one's steam. In no way do I think she is doing this to punish the fans. Give the woman time, people! If some of you would take the time to understand what it takes to create dynamic characters such as these, you might just get a slight inkling of what she felt. On top of that, she didn't want it read because it wasn't FINISHED. It had not been perfected. It is similar to how an artist doesn't want you to see their sculpture or painting before it is done-- it alters the artistic integrity of it. So people, I say, GIVE STEPHANIE A FREAKING BREAK and RESPECT HER AS AN ARTIST!
I need to have Edward's face and voice. When I read the first book, I learned that my true prince will come and be just as sweet, trustworthy, and honest as Edward.

Ilove everything about twilight:saga. I spend my free times thinking about what I would write in the 5th book if I was the writer. I am sure a lot of twilight fans think like that. But it would be the best to know what the original writer thinks about 'midnight sun'.
please, Stehanie . please finish 'Midnight sun'. We want to see 'EDELLA' again .
